Advantages: fun for the dog, cheap
Disadvantages: bad quality, awakes too many instincts
Ah, the freesbee! Who wouldn't want to go to the beach and play freesbee with their dog? Well I know that I wouldn't! We had a really nice and sweet dog, who just loved fetching sticks, balls and freesbees. And I thought that maybe the freesbee would be a good change from stick covered in drool from the happy dog fetching it. Well, my dog loved the freesbee. And in the beginning I liked it too. Long walks in the wood with a freesbee, and my dog happily running after it. However, a freesbee is of plastic, and not very longlasting. The more the freesbee was used, the more wholes it got in it from the dogs teeth, and the harder it would be to throw. After a while the the wholes would develop sharp pointy edges around them, and believe it or not, I managed to cut myself on a dogs freesbee! So what? It is a toy. It is not supposed to last forever (and believe me, it didn't!), and it is not expensive to buy a new one. Still. My dog really liked the freesbe. So much that when all that was left from it was a little piece of chewed plastic, she still wanted to play with it. The freesbee appear as a brainwashing toy for dogs. Because a dog won't know the differende of "my toy" and "your toy", and whenever we pass children playing freebee my dog turns into a little monster. She'll interrupt the game by fethcing the freesbee and then "kill" it. If a kid holds a freesbee, she will bark and bark and bark at the poor child, and won't give up until she gets the freesbee. Once she even followed a little boy because he was holding a freesbee. And believe me, it is not fun CARRYING a big dog home because it really, really, really won't behave! I have to have her in the leach at all times now, as she will try to steal other people's freesbees... and other people might not like it very much. Give the dog a stick! It is cheaper AND it won't make your dog chase
other people in order for them to throw the freesbee to it. Ok, I'll admit that the freesbee was fun, and that I have been putting it down more than neccessary. But at the end of the day, it really wasn't worth it. The dog was just as happy playing with sticks and tennisballs anyway. She also used to be able to run freely. Now that is impossible in case we pass kids playing with freesbees or anything that just flies in the air like one.
