Advantages: Free things, happy kitties!

Disadvantages: None

We own cats - or to be more precise, cats own us. Two strays walked into our house two years ago and begged for chicken, and somehow they never have got round to leaving. They're a pair of spoilt girls, bought everything their fuzzy hearts might desire, but we have found a couple of things that need no money at all.

1. Conkers. Holly adores these. We knew already that she liked having balls to chase about, but my kid sister had been collecting conkers, and one fell out of her pocket onto the shiny kitchen floor. The next thing we knew, a furry nutter was hurtling around, batting it about the floor.

2. Newpaper. What makes toys on strings cooler than ever? Hiding them under newspaper and making them rustle so they could be REAL MICE. This game is guaranteed to send Ivy into a pouncing frenzy as she attempts to locate and kill whatever caused the rustling. (Should not be attempted with newspaper anyone in the house still intended to read in case of causing a severe case of the sulks).

Summary: Keeps our spoilt girls happy
