      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good choice for small pets

To be frank there is not loads you can say about things like this except for dental control on rodents and other small animals, they are fantastic for keeping their never ending growing teeth in good check while giving you pet a nice perch to jump on as well which owning a chinchilla he loves these as well as the other variety's I have to buy when it is time for it to be chucked away due to age.

Most pet shops will sell these or highly similar varieties for just over £5 and there are a range of there products from hideaway logs that I recommend as well. Although it is advertised as being usable as a food bowl I do not nor would ever use this as my chinchillas day to day food bowl and more of a chewable perch/chew toy as they have the tendencies to pee and poo in their bowl when eating if they are low down on the floor so on that basis for chinchilla owners I advise a metal bowl that can be attached to a cage instead via a looped ring the bowl can fit in and be attached wherever is suitable for your pet as it keeps things hygienic and easier to remove faster and clean.

This is still a good fun products that any small rodent will enjoy and chew just beware like most things they will tear it to death and then get bored of it after a while.

great addition to Lennons hamster cage

When I suggested the Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl as a product on Dooyoo I was not too sure in which category to put it - pet food or pet accessories. An edible food bowl for Lennon sounded like a great idea so we ordered it for roughly 4£ from an online pet store. Lennon is probably the most spoiled hamster in the world and there's no single treat that we would deny him. So yeah, edible furniture seemed the way forward.

When the Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl arrived I was a bit surprised by its size; with 5cm x 5cm it was a bit smaller than I expected it to be and looked like a miniature volcano. Not too sure how Lennon would react to it I filled it with his favorite muesli and put it in his cage. He could probably sense that I was starring it him and did what every teenager (he's 2 months now) would do - ignored it simply to annoy me. When he finally started eating he did gnarl a tiny bit on the bowl but apart from that continued his (very cute) selective feeding without showing any further interest in the new addition to his house. This went on for a couple of days until I was woken up in the middle of the night by him chewing happily away on his mini volcano. It is not made from overly hard material so it is easy enough for him to chew on it but still sufficiently hard to keep his teeth and claws in shape. The bowl seems to last for ages; we had it in his cage for well over two weeks now and there's still quite a bit left.

Why should you buy an Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl?

The main reason is, obviously next to give your little furry friend a treat, to help maintaining a good oral health. The teeth of rodents will keep on growing if they don't ground them down by chewing on hard materials. Lennon ignores all types of salt or mineral licks and has the habit of keeping me up at night by chewing on the bars of his cage. The edible bowl does help a bit but the bar chewing still hasn't stopped. He would chew on his bowl throughout the day and really seems to like it.

Can I recommend the Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl?

Definitely for hamsters and other similarly sized rodents; guinea pigs and rabbits are probably a bit big for the small bowl. The bowl is heavy enough to be used as proper food storage and seems to be a favorite of Lennon. It is made from alfalfa and honey giving it (I just assume so) a sweet taste which should be a great incentive for a hamster to chew on. Lennon loves all kinds of nut sticks with honey so it was no surprise for me that he liked the Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl as well. It did take him a few days to grow to it so don't throw it away if it doesn't work right from the beginning.

Please note that the Ecotrition Snak Shak Edi-Bowl is only indented to be a treat for your furry friend and does not replace dried and fresh food.
