A cat's idea of heaven. (Feline Fayre Cat Food in General)
Member Name: Sussy2
Advantages: High, real fish content Disadvantages: None (but be aware sachets are less economical than tins, and you may have to search for it) These cat foods are, in my opinion, the very best you can buy. It comes in 400g cans (ocean fish; sardine; tuna; pilchard); 170g tins often sold in a 4 pack, two tins of each flavour (tuna; pilchard); and foil sachets (all of the aforementioned flavours plus one extra: tuna and salmon). The packaging is predominantly sky blue so it stands out quite well. If you look on the list of ingredients you'll find that there's 60% fish in the sachets and even more, 70%, in the tins. This towers above the fish/meat level in more well known brands. When you open the cans you can see that the fish content really is high: the tuna fish variety is dense and although a different colour, not that far away from a budget can of tuna for human consumption; the other types are packed with off-cuts, fish heads, and occasionally whole small fish - not exactly appealing to look at but blissful for feline friends. I think it must be made from the waste that's left over from human fish products which is so sensible and allows the whole fish to be put to good use. I actually feel that my cat's life has been extended by this food. A couple of years ago he was looking really old and sickly, and due to gammy teeth I had to change his biscuits for a soft canned food - which is when I found feline fayre. Without a word of a lie, within 6 weeks his coat had improved, he'd put on weight, he was hunting again. Two or three years later, at 18 years of age, he's still benefiting from it. There are two minor problems: first, it's not that easy to get hold of. Asda stock it, but normally only have the sachets and the smaller tins; I usually buy it from a nearby shop in the QD chain, so QD itself would be the first place I'd advise anyone who's interested to look. Secondly, which is why I'd advise looking in QD rather than going to Asda, is that meal for meal the sachets are nowhere near as good value as the tins - and, of course, they have a lower fish content. Not withstanding these I couldn't recommend this cat food highly enough. Summary: I wouldn't feed my cat on anything else. |
