My sister lives less than a mile from me and her garden was always full of birds but they never seemd to visit me for some reason. I decided to buy some bird feeders to attract them and soon I had a number of feathered friends visiting on a daily basis. Then disaster struck, the school stopped allowing the kids to eat outside to try and rid themselves of crows and deprived of their usual food source of dropped crisps and sweeties they decided to attack my bird feeders and soon destroyed them. I decided to go to the garden centre to buy some sturdier feeders and ended up choosing the Gardman wild bird feeding kit.

I chose this kit for many reasons. The main one was that it contained a variety of food and so would attract a wild variety of birds to my garden. I also liked the fact that Gardman supports various bird charities and provided a feeding guide on the back of the packet as well as pictures of common British birds to help me identify the bids I have attracted.

Inside my kid I got an easy feed with peanuts, a 2 port seed feeder, a bag containing 0.9kg of seed supreme, 2 fat snax and a wild bird food hanger.

The 2 port seed feeder is excellent. It is very sturdy, easy to fill and has two perchers already attached to it. It took seconds to fill it with the seed mix and hang it to my ash tree.

The peanut feeder is also excellently constructed but has a few drawbacks. It is impossible to turn it upside down to hang it without half of the feed falling out. I also had to snap off the perches and attach them myself and they feel flimsy and I also had to provide something for it to hang from as a hanger was not attached.

The seed supreme food is of high quality and the bag will last for a long time.

The fat snax smelled really fresh but I did not find the wild bird food hanger to be much use. It is made of sturdy green plastic and looks good but it simply slides over the branch like a coat hanger so I ended up just using string to attach the fat balls. For some reason the birds who visit dont seem interested in fat balls anyway.

I have my bird feeders hanging on my ash tree which is near my living room window and I love the fact that the smaller birds have started to visit my garden again. I've managed to identify sparrows, robins, great tits, blue tits and chaffinches from the bird guide provided. My birds seem to like seeds best so I have to refill that reasonably frequently. Once you atart feeding it is important to continue as the birds come to depend on the food provided.

Overall this kit is a reasonable buy for someone looking for an easy way to attract birds to their garden. I bought my kit for £6.99 from a local garden centre but have since seen it a pound cheaper in focus. It is good having everything you need in one handy box and it is sturdy enough that the crows have left it alone.
