Hagen Aqua Fizzzz Airstone

I have used HAGEN'S AQUAFIZ AIRSTONES for over twenty years. They are cheap and easily available from most local fish shops. I has been my experience that once you take them out of the water they will NOT work as well as before. I always change the small ones from the uplifts every two or three months. The longer 6 inch,9 inch and the 12 inch should always be left in the tank when doing your manitenance. The sand stone type material will crumble if you remove from the water so they are better left in the tank. The small inch stones are great for the uplifts and placing inside ornaments or bogwood. Aqua fizz is not the best airstones I have ever had in my tank. They are made from a very brittle substance as my airstones crumbled after taking them out of my undergravel filter tubes for cleaning. I have used them before and found that they become blocked easily and tend to wear out quickly. They also make long air stones as well as a cube shaped one (dont know what that is for) and a Ball shaped one (ditto). If you do not have a very powerful pump, the long airstones are a waste as only the first couple of inches produce bubbles. There seeems to be a poor air distribution within the stones.
