Advantages: Loads of purposes, inexpensive and easy to clean. Stackable.

Disadvantages: Can crack when heated, sometimes prone to scratching, high postage when buying online.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure this is a rather old product that isn't being produced any longer. Hagan now have their own dedicated reptile sibling company "Exo Terra" and Exo Terra produce the Faunariums which are basically the current version of those useful plastic boxes with the removeable plastic ventillated lids and a small transparent opening window at the top.

These types of plastic boxes are very good for a whole stack of different purposes. The small flat types are good for growing on young snakes, things like corns, kings, milks, ball pythons, boas etc Just set them up with some newspaper or paper towel, a water bowl and a hide. Please ensure that any heat mats or strips underneath the box are rigged up to a thermostat, not only because you risk overheating the animals if they aren't, but because the plastic may actually begin to melt as the temperature of the mats goes up and up and up and keeps getting hotter. This is especially true of the Exo Terra heat mats, of which I have now heard a couple of stories about them burning the surfaces that hold them.

This review is specific to the flat type of "Reptile Den" so I think it's worth mentioning that this wouldn't really be suitable for say a white's tree frog, or any other areboreal (tree dwelling species) and not really suitable for most Geckos which love the climb the walls of their enclosure. It would however be fine for a terrestrial species of gecko like a young leopard gecko.

There are countless uses, spider keeping, livefood storage, young snake/lizard raising, baby turtle cleaning tubs, transportation of exotics to the vet - these things are always useful to have ontop of the vivarium.

Summary: Very useful product for the reptile, or small mammal keeper to have handy.
