Silicone tubing was meant to be the answer to all the aquarists problems with regard to fitting tubes around awkward shapes.
It is. It is so flexible it will bend around anything witout disrupting the airflow.
The only problem is its twice the price of traditional hose.
Its a greenish colour too which proves unsightly compared to the transparent hosing that is standard.
It is supposed to last forever too but I dont see the point in that. The standard hosing does not deteriorate, except around the pump mounting and airstone where it gets stretched. All you need to do then is trim a 1cm piece of each end. Its not the end of the world.
At the end of the day, there is not a lot of difference except the silicone is very bendy and retains its shap if you have to put it through a 90 degree bend. Usefull if your tubs are going through cabinets.
Its up to you. Pay the extra if you think you will benefit. Personally, I think the standard hose is fine.
