Advantages: For me, none!!

Disadvantages: My dog hated it!, your dog can slip it, it ruined my dogs walk!

Whats the purpose?
My 2 and a half year old Border Collie pulls on her lead. I wanted to stop her from doing this because it's not pleasant for me or her. So I logged online to try and find a solution. I stumbled across this so called miracle Halti collar that stops dogs from pulling in an entirely cruelty free way. Perfect, or so I thought.

The Halti Collar is fits on around your dogs nose, under the chin and clips onto your lead, it's supposed to turn your dogs head to the side slightly when they pull, which is such an unnatural thing for a dog that it's supposed to stop them from pulling.

Does it work?
It came time to use the Halti on her. I read all of the rules in the little booklet provided to make sure it was on correctly and that she was comfortable. that was done!. Then I noticed in the booklet it said that if your dog pulls backwards then there is a chance that they can slip, well for me that just isn't an option with the busy roads it's far to dangerous. So I put her normal collar on, then the halti and clipped her lead grip through both holes so she was safe.

Then the nightmare began. As soon as we left the door she tried to pull, but was interrupted by the halti, she started whacking at her face with both paws and shaking her head around. This carried on for a good 3 or 4 minutes, but I thought i'd continue to persevere with it. Then she started scratching her face on the pavement and yakking (it wasn't that it was choking her, she is a drama queen, but it's still not nice!!!!). This worried me so I took it off her, we continued our walk peacefully. I was glad I had put her regular collar on her.

The next day I tried again, and the exact same thing happened. So for me the Halti collar was a total waste of money. Maybe I should have continued trying, but honestly it's so so hard to see your dog doing that, I felt guilty for ruining her walk, it's her favourite thing to do.

If your dog scraps her (or his) face on the ground it's going to get sore, so it really wasn't an option. I have since learnt a much better way of teaching her to walk nicely, it takes patience but it's kinder.

From what I've read online it has worked for some people but be warned it's not for everyone, be warned!!

It costs on average about £5.00!

Summary: Halti Head Collar!

You can't by a headcollar, put it straight on, go for a walk and expect your dog to just walk perfectly! It will feel strange for your dog to be wearing it to start with let alone feel it pulling their head sideways. The Halti should be introduced gradually until they get used to wearing it after that you will find it does the job it's meant to do perfectly. This is explained in the instuctions! Halti's often come with a 'Halti Link' that attaches from the Halti to the collar incase your dog does slip out of it which is actually quite hard to do. I have an Alaskan Malamute, born to pull! This headcollar has helped with his natural instinct to pull and with training him to heel so he will now even heel off the lead. You have to work with your dog, nothing is instant.

Not sure what the point of this is if it can slip off! My dog would hate to have anything on his face. Good luck with finding a better solution x

It worked great for our labrador although I do remember him fighting it to start with.
