I just want to point out before I get into this review that I do understand the importance of exercise for our furry friends and the health benefits they get by being active. However this is where I have a dilemma because in the 14 months I have had a hamster as a pet I have given him 3 different types of hamster wheel each with varying degrees of success. 1. The traditional wheel that comes attached to a cage: My hamsters favourite I have to say, he spends literally hours in the thing with a determined look on his face, he really is like a thing possessed in it and will not stop running in it. Great for him, nightmare for me. The wheel squeaks incessantly ... Read the complete review

I think a hamster wheel is one of the most important things that a hamster cage needs and I would actually say that it is essential that you have one if you have a hamster. A hamster needs a wheel for exercise, and it also means that they have less chance of getting bored. There are different sizes of wheels and different materials that you can buy them in. It is important that the wheel you get is big enough for your hamster to run around in, if it is too small then they can damage their backs. You get small wheels which are suitable for dwarf and Chinese hamsters, and then larger ones for Syrian hamsters and other larger breeds of ... Read the complete review

Personally I consider a hamster wheel to be an essential bit of cage furniture, I've had many hamsters over the years and all have owned a wheel of some description my 2 new hamsters included. All of my hamsters have used wheels - some use their wheel more than others but they all had one so had the choice of using it. There are many types of wheel to choose from and they can vary greatly in price and appearance. Many people choose the plastic clip on variety (for barred cages) but the thing to be aware of when buying one of these is the size - quite a few are too small to comfortably accommodate a fully grown Syrian hamster so you should make sure the wheel ... I have a sneaky suspicion that hamster wheels are more for human enjoyment than the pet's. For example, it's a form of exercise (in our mind), but to a hamster is the road that leads nowhere. As gravity takes over, it also becomes the super quick, run fast else you will fall on your head road that goes nowhere. I wonder what the point is. I think it's supposed to be about exercise, but do we exercise other caged animals? I'm not sure why it's so important, between these and those horrible ball things like on gladiators, to get the hamster out and about! The best thing about them is the way they stretch your hamster's legs (and the rest of their body ... Read the complete review

A Hamster Wheel is an accessory for your pet. Hamsters do need a lot of exercise otherwise they can become very fat and unhealthy, this is self explanatory but a hamster cant exercise itself effectively without a device such as a hamster wheel so make sure you buy one or a hamster ball to make sure your hamster gets the exercise it needs. I bought one of these hamster wheels from Wilkinsons for just over £1, it is similar to the one pictured on Dooyoo but it is a fluorescent green colour which I think looks rather stylish, not that my hamster will notice! You can use it in one of two ways, there is a detachable stand for just placing it ... Read the complete review
