A good staple diet which was used by the RSPCA (Iams Original Formula Cat Food)

Advantages: My cat has soft fur and a glossy coat

Disadvantages: May cause urinary tract problems (vet's opinion only)

I adopted my cat from the RSPCA and it was here that I learnt that the RSPCA had been feeding my kitten Iams. Seems a pretty good idea to continue his feed on Iams, one because I trusted the RSPCA to choose the best cat food for my kitten and also, I heard mixing the different brands in the first year of a cat's life is not great. My cat really does have a preference towards chicken flavoured Iams so I don't know whether it is just him or whether the Iams is actually much better than the rest. However, my vet did say that I shouldn't be feeding my cat on Iams purely because he believes (and I stress that this is the vet's opinion) that too much dry Iams causes crystals to form in the urinary tract causing problems for the cat when they go for a pee and especially for male cats. All in all, though, I have mixed his Iams with some Felix wet food and my cats fur is soft and glossy. He is active and has a good appetite so it must be doing something good!
