We had a pay a visit to our friendly local vet about 10 days ago, as our 6 month old puppy was starting to lose clumps of fur from all over her body. He has diagnosed an allergy to a mite which is probably present in the fields where we walk her. However, he also said that she appears to have a very sensitive skin and this may be something he will look further into on our return visit in a few weeks. We talked about the food and treats that we give her, and I explained we had stopped using Bakers due to some unpleasant side effects (see my review on that for more details). He said that he was not surprised, and whilst he thought our current brand was probably fine, we ... Read the complete review

*What is James Wellbeloved?* James Wellbeloved is a company that makes a range of hypo-allergenic foods for dogs, cats and ferrets- every food in their range contains no beef, dairy products, egg, wheat, animal by-products or soya which are known to cause skin irritations, digestive upsets and hyperactivity in animals. The food I will be reviewing here is the one for dogs. *The food itself* James Wellbeloved is a crunchy, dry food which is 'complete', meaning that it provides all the nutrients your dog needs to stay fit and healthy. A variety of different flavours are available including turkey & rice, duck & rice, lamb & rice and fish ... Read the complete review

I’d like to introduce you to our two girls. They’d like to be introduced to you too, because they’re friendly dogs even though they look a little fearsome. Both are pedigree Rhodesian Ridgebacks – Rosie’s nearly seven years old and Kia is four. Rosie will always be the larger of the two – she’s actually a little on the tall side of the breed standard for a bitch and weighs about 40kg, but Kia isn’t a long way behind at 35kg. Rosie came to us when she was seven weeks old. Kia was four months old and unfortunately we were not her first home. Both had previously been fed on Pedigree complete dog food, but I’ve never been convinced about the quality of the ... Read the complete review

We have come a long way since my childhood when our dogs were fed on what was available. This tended to be rabbit and or tablescraps. Since our own food was rationed we should not be too pompous about this. Since those days the pet food industry has become a mighty marketing machine and we are now inundated with a choice of foods and flavours which I suspect are largely aimed at what the manufacturers believe the pet owner would perceive to be tasty. We are fortunate that 95% of British petfood manufacturers belong to the Pet Food Manufacturers Association and there are two main benefits for me. One is that are that those belonging to the PFMA use only ... Read the complete review

My little Dachshund puppy was perfect in every way except he wouldn't eat much. He also experienced stomach pain which caused him to lie flat on the floor, legs spread behind him to try to get rid of his pain. Now and again he would be sick and this was spoiling an otherwise very happy life for my little man! I took him to the vet who reccommended that I try changing his diet to James Wellbeloved. The results were pretty much immediate. No more being sick, he liked the food which he seemed to find easier to chew, (he especially likes it mixed with a little bit of the pouch food). It seems to be easier on his stomach than other pet foods as he was never sick (except ... Read the complete review
