My cat is an indoor cat and needs to use a cat litter trey, I have tried most sorts from the cheapest to the most expensive but by far the best is wood pellets (I use pampapus) this start of as little pellets of wood and turn to sawdust as they are used and all you can smell is the smell of sawdust unless he does a very smelly poo, as soon as my cat does a number 2 I do remove it but I have often visited peoples houses that have litter trays and the smell of number 1 is often overpowering. I buy a big bag that lasts forever as you only need to use a little bit in the bottom of the tray. So a bag lasts a long time and even though it is more expensive to buy than other litters it lasts so long I think it works out cheaper. It has got a disadvantage though you really need a litter tray with a hood as my cat used to kick it over the sides.
