Advantages: Dogs love them!
Disadvantages: Mess if your dogs don't eat it all up... highly unlikely.
*Introduction*
Let me start by saying that I have two absolutely gorgeous and adorable black Labradors called Poppy and Coco. It had taken me years to persuade my parents to let us have a dog and they finally conceded two years ago. Now that we have them, I like to spoil them with a number of different treats. Pedigree Chum Markies were the first snack that we tried and they have definitely been a hit with my two.
*About Pedigree Markies*
Pedigree Markies are marrowbone biscuit treats for dogs of all sizes. They claim to be a natural source of calcium and phosphorus which help to maintain strong teeth and bones.
These biscuits contain vitamins and minerals that are essential for your dog's diet.
*Price and Availability*
You can buy Pedigree Chum Markies from a number of different shops as the brand is extremely popular. These include Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda as well as Pets at Home or a number of online websites that sell pet treats.
The 1.5kg box that I tend to buy my dogs can be bought for £3.39. This is very good value for money and the quality of the biscuits is second to none.
*My Opinion*
The Packaging: Like most Pedigree Chum products, the Markies has the classic packaging and appearance. They are contained in a yellow and red cardboard box with a picture of the Markies and a dog. There is also a list of the ingredients and nutrients available to read on the reverse of the packaging if you wish to know what goes into the product.
The slightly annoying thing about the packaging of this product is that once open, you are unable to reseal the box. I therefore find myself tipping them into a sealable tub (usually the plastic one we buy hide in) to store them until they have been eaten.
Appearance: The look of Pedigree Markies reminds me of sausage rolls. They are fairly large therefore they aren't the type of treat that you will use to train your dog. They are roughly an inch long and fairly chunky in width. They are a cylinder shape with a light exterior (white, crunchy biscuit) and darker interior (a meaty centre that consists of marrowbone and cereal).
Smell: There isn't really one to be honest. This is what I really like about Pedigree Markies. The fact that they do not make your cupboard smell strongly of either chicken or beef like numerous dog treats available is a huge bonus as far as I am concerned.
Allowance: On the box is a guide to the number of biscuits that your dog should have per day. This is split into small, medium and large dogs and therefore easy to read and understand.
Small (i.e. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel): Up to 5 biscuits per day.
Medium (i.e. Cocker Spaniel): Up to 10 biscuits per day.
Large (i.e. Golden Retriever): Up to 15 biscuits per day.
There are a variety of Markies available to buy. These are:
Original Markies: A plain outer biscuit with marrowbone centre.
Chicken Markies: A plain outer biscuit with a chicken flavoured marrowbone centre.
Puppy Markies: A smaller version of the Chicken Markies that are suitable for puppies.
Trio Markies: These are a mixture of three different flavoured Markies: Original, Chicken and Beef.
How long does a box last? I would say that a 1.5kg box lasts approximately 2-4 weeks in our house, depending on what other treats are in the house. I always ensure that I reduce the number of Pedigree Markies that they have if they are being given other treats.
How long does the Markie last? All of twenty seconds! Considering the speed in which the biscuits are consumed, I think my dogs enjoy them. If you are looking to give your dog a treat that will last them a few minutes, I wouldn't say that Pedigree Chum Markies are the right treats for you.
When the tub that contains the Pedigree Markies biscuits in comes out from the cupboard, Poppy and Coco's faces light up. You can see the delight in their eyes that they are getting (one of many of their favourite) biscuits. They have had these biscuits since they were puppies and they are yet to go off it.
*Are There Any Negatives*
It is difficult to find anything wrong with these biscuits. The only negative, and this is extremely minor, is that they can cause a little bit of a mess, although only when bitten into. This is true for my friend's fussy dog as he decides to break the biscuit up and then leave it. Fortunately for me, my dogs will eat absolutely anything so this is never a problem. Every crumb is cleared up after them!
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
There is no question that I would recommend Pedigree's Markies. Poppy and Coco adore these biscuits. Judging by the speed at which they are eaten, I'm sure my dogs would agree with me when I say that they are fantastic. From my point of view, they are packaged to be stored easily although I do tend to transfer them into a sealable pot and don't smell like a number of other dog treats that I have bought in the past. Your dogs will thank me for it if you go out and buy these on my recommendation.
*Overall*
All in all, I think Pedigree have done me a huge favour with Markies. My two dogs absolutely love them and devour them within seconds. They are a great way to give your dogs the nutrients they need in a way that they'll love. All in all, a great treat and if my dogs could say thank you, they would.
Summary: Delicious treats for mans best friend.

- 13/07/09 My two love these! I think a couple of them wont do my dogs any harm, but I never give more than three in one day. Don't want them getting fat! |

- 05/06/09 MY vet warned me against these for dogs as apparently they have a high level of salt which could be dangerous. Can't confirm if they taste salty though! |
