Advantages: Cleans, Freshens Breath, Chewy, Dog Enjoys Them, Play Games With Them
Disadvantages: Not The Cheapest Thing To Buy Every Week
Denta Stix is the equivalent of a toothbrush for a dog. They are long sticks, which are similar to ordinary treats, but with their unique shape and active formula, it helps keep your dogs teeth in great condition and freshens up their breath. You can buy Denta Stix in three sizes depending on how large your dog is. We buy the large ones as my dog is around 12kg. They are all the same but are just different lengths and have a slightly different width too.
All Denta Stix come in yellow packets with a shiny blue area on the front where an image of a Denta Stix is shown. It also shows the 'Denta Stix' logo next to a sparkling tooth, so you clearly get the idea of the products function. The Pedigree logo is on the top yellow part of the packet in front of a red rosette. Pedigree is well known for their products for animals, so you can trust them that this is another brilliant product.
You simply pull open the packet to make a hole in the top from where you can pull out Denta Stix. They are a beige-brown colour and have a very distinct smell. They smell like dog treats but are unique too. Their shape is original as well. If you look at the cross section of the stick, it is shaped like an X or a cross. This makes up the full length of the stick, and this shape means that it will get in and between your dogs' teeth to give them a good clean.
The texture of the treat is ever so slightly rough and they are a bit soft too, which gives them their chewy texture when eaten. Their size, texture and shape means that your dog has a real go at these and it will keep them busy for a few minutes. You should give them one Denta Stix a day to keep their teeth healthy and breath as fresh as it can be. We have not had problems at all with our King Charles Cavalier in relation to teeth, so these obviously do the trick as he has been having them since a very young age.
The small packets cost around £1.49 for 7 Denta Stix - cleverly chosen for one a day to last a whole week. The medium size packet costs around £1.89 and the large packets are around £2.19. You can buy them at all good supermarkets including Tesco. I would definitely recommend them as they will keep your dogs teeth in great condition and improve their breath too! My dog really seems to like them as they are chewy and he will run into the lounge and have a go at it for a few minutes. A funny game my dog likes to play is that when I pretend to steal his Denta Stix, he starts to growl and we usually end up playing tug and war! So, they can make good toys too.

- 16/07/09 My dogs use the Tesco dental sticks, just a tad cheaper and seem to have the same tooth cleaning and taste properties as Pedigree. |
