Advantages: good quality and taste from what I could see
Disadvantages: a bit more expensive
My poor little Tasha required some treatment from the vet recently for a pretty sore looking eye infection. My wife phoned and arranged an appointment with our vet, who is part of Companion care vet surgeries, which are mostly housed in a Pets at Home stores.
On arrival we discovered that they were running slightly behind so I took the opportunity to browse their very adequate shelves. I had probably already decided before leaving the house that she would get a treat, but I kidded her and myself that it was because she was being such a good girl. She likes a chew now and then....well actually every Saturday after the weekly shop she searches the carrier bags for her treat. Pig's ears are one of her favourites, but they have a tendency to become a bit scarce every so often, so when I saw a 10 pack on offer at this store I thought I'd dive in.
They aren't cheap Pets at Home in fact they are pretty pricey, but I found that this multi-pack did represent not bad value at £6.29. Our usual brand worked out at about 55p per ear and the maths will tell you these are 63p. Once home we gave Tasha an ear and watched her flick and play with it for ages before finally lying down and having a good old chew. Each ear is a fair size and is a lovely golden brown colour, not that I myself found them at all appealing. They are very crisp but being basically skin they are quite flexible once she has chewed them for a while. It's really quite funny because she makes all these noises as if she were getting torn into a big juicy steak, and she certainly seems to enjoy them. I was expecting a big more of a smell from them but to me they are pretty odourless, I' guessing to a dog they smell delicious judging by the fuss made by my girl to get hold of one.
They are perhaps a bit smaller than my usual brand but as I say the scarcity of them was really the deciding factor in coughing up a bit extra. At the end of the day they do appear to have been good value for money and if it turns out they weren't I'm not too fussed since my little precious is well worth it.
Summary: A nice little treat for that special little girl
