Advantages: Cheap and works well as bedding and of course it is safe....even if eaten by a greedy guts!

Disadvantages: To tasty?

When I bought back Colin the Syrian Hamster from pets at home I didn't only come back with a small box of hamster. No I came back with three large carrier bags full of bits and pieces for him. People have referred to hamsters and rodents as pocket money pets. Not this one...he costs me a flipping fortune....not that I'm complaining I adore the little chap and he can have anything he wants/needs!

One thing I was advised to purchase in the store was some bedding. I actually purchased a few different types all at the same time as I had no idea which one he'd like best and thought it best to go by trial and error till I found the right one for him.

This was recommended by a store assistant and at £1.29 for a small bag of safe bedding I felt it was a good buy. It is also available in larger bags and in different sized beddings depending on your pet so you can also get (as well as the small bedding), medium and large and are variant in price of course.

The Packaging Of The 'Small' Safe Bedding:

The bedding comes in a mostly see-through plastic bag and it has a green in-printed coloured label to the front and the back of it. On the front there are photographs of rodents, a chinchilla, guinea pig and a rabbit and I am told that it is Pets At Home Safe Bedding 'Bedding suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, chinchillas and ferrets' and that as I have previously mentioned that this is the small bedding and it is made from paper & paper wool flakes and that it is non toxic. On the back of the bag other information listed includes being told a bit about the product and directions for using it, there is a list on there telling you what sort of bedding you can use for your pet and contact details for Pets At home are given. There is no weight stated on the bag but as I remember there are a couple of sized bags per size bedding available in store.

A Bit About The Product According To The Information Given On The Back Of The Bag:

Pets At Home Safe Bedding is naturally safe and non toxic, ideal as nesting and bedding material. Made from plant fibres, the combination of paper flakes makes Safe Bedding a great choice to make any cage or hutch a cosy home.

Using It:

All you do is grab a handful of what appears to be layers of compressed, soft toilet/kitchen roll. They are thick chunks of paper these and not as small as I expected but you only need enough to make a bed for your pet so in my case with my little fella thats just about a handful.

It needs changing once a week (more if soiled) and it is to be used in conjunction with other materials such as sawdust etc.

However although my Colin enjoys a good sleep in it he also enjoys eating it. I didn't realise this at first but I was putting in rather alot to be greeted the next day by a fat and contented looking Colin, belly up in his cage with a smirk on his face and the bedding being half gone.

He does rest in it and although its none harmful and none toxic (which is a relief) I have stopped using this bedding for now and am using an alternative at the moment. I was impressed that it was easy to shake clean, was absorbent of accidents however not pleased my hamsters diet was paper....no matter how good it was. Recommended by Colin as his favourite food but not me cos I only wanted him to have a nice bed lol.

Only available in Pets At Home stores.
