Advantages: Provides pets with essential vitamins and minerals
Disadvantages: Pets may not like the taste
Anyone who owns a cat will realise that sometimes, our furry little friends can be notoriously fussy eaters. Of course, many cats will wolf down anything put in front of them, but my pet is less than open minded when it comes to dinner time. Therefore, I was quite cautious when trying the fluffy-one on 'Felix Jelly Specialities' which can be purrr - chased (sorry) from Tesco for £3.28 (12 Pack).
The Jelly Specialities come in the form of easy to open foil trays, and each pack contains three beef, three chicken, three duck, and three rabbit varieties. The problem is that each flavour has an added vegetable component, and therefore, 'Beef' is actually 'Beef and Carrot', 'Chicken' is actually 'Chicken and Tomato', and 'Duck' transpires to be 'Duck and Spinach'. The added veggies are done to provide the cat with a range of vitamins that meat alone can't provide - but what's the use if the cat wont eat them in the first place?.
This morning, the cat was pestering me for food, and I could tell she was pretty hungry by her constant meowing. I opened the Chicken and Tomato variety, and emptied it into her bowl. The contents were almost bright red in colour, and there seemed to be a lot more tomato than chicken in the concoction. The cat went over to her food, sniffed it, and finally looked at me as if to say "what the hell is this!?" - to be honest, I was thinking exactly the same thing. In the end, I had to chuck it away and open the Beef and Carrot variety, which, although orange, the cat found a bit more appetizing. I realized that the "meats your cat won't be able to get enough of" quote on the box probably doesn't apply to all felines!
So in conclusion, although an admirable attempt has been made by Felix to give your cat those extra vitamins and minerals, a selection of food has been created which I expect many cats will avoid. With all pet food however, it depends on the very nature of the thing that's eating it!
Summary: Healthy pet food

- 20/06/09 Great review, conversational, humorous, with all the required information. In my feline experience - fussy eaters have always had loving, caring owners. Strays and ferals will eat anything or at least make a good effort too. My current ex-stray eats sunflowers seeds (along with all the usual cat food!) |
