Advantages: Useful, Compact, Cheap.
Disadvantages: Can leak, small capacity
What is it?
This is a Travel Water Bottle for dogs from the RAC range of dog car travel products. The range includes water bottle, car seat covers, front seat guard and window guards.
It is a 0.5 litre plastic water bottle with a drinking bowl attached. The water bottle folds into the bowl when not in use so only takes up the size of a bottle so its easy to store and carry. Its ideal to use when travelling with your dog on journeys. The pack comes with photo instructions on the packaging to show you how to use it but its not difficult.
How do you use it?
Before leaving home fill the water bottle with fresh water from the tap. Screw the bottle onto the cap which is attached to the bowl. Keep the bottle upright at theis point until its firmly attached. When your dog needs a drink lift the bottle up from the bowl and squeeze some water out. The water will come through the cap and into the bowl. You have to hold the bottle to enable your dog to drink from the bowl. If you put it on the ground the weight of the water bottle will cause the bowl to tip so keep a hold of it whilst your dog drinks. Once your dog has had enough to drink tip any excess water out of the bowl (there shouldn’t be too much as you just gently keep squeezing the water into the bowl until your dog has had enough) and then fold the bottle back into the bowl and its ready for the next time.
When would you use it?
Whenever you go on a car journey, if you’re out for the day or for a long walk. We take it with us when we go to training classes as our dog Oscar gets quite thirsty with all that hard work and biscuits! If you’re out walking it fits neatly into your rucksack or when you’re in the car we put it into the pocket of the seats.
Any other features?
It has a storage clip if you want to hang it on something, I guess you could hang it on the outside of your rucksack. The packaging also comes with guidelines from the Kennel Club for road travel with your dog, it’s a 10 point plan of how to make your dogs car journeys more bearable for you and for the dog.
What does it cost?
It costs around £3.49
Where can I buy it?
I have seen if for sale in larger pet stores such as Pets At Home. Its also available from many of the online pet stores. It is also on sale on the RAC website and they offer members a 10% discount.
Advantages
1. Very useful product. Unlike many gadgets for pets you will use this one a lot.
2. Gives you a happy and healthy dog. Its important dogs drink regularly
3. Very portable due to its compact size. You only need one bottle whereas before you would need a bottle of water and a separate bowl.
4. Not expensive.
Disadvantages
1. My bottle leaks a bit if you tip it onto its side. However this may just be a fault with my bottle as I have spoken to other people who don’t have this problem. I just ensure the bottle stays upright when I am carrying it.
2. Only holds 0.5litres so if you have 2 dogs or one thirsty dog you need to keep filling it up.
Summary: A travel water bottle with built in bowl to give dogs water when travelling
