“ Manufacturer: Rotastak / Type: Small Pet Bedding „
Hello i would just like to say i would not use this product again or recommend it to anyone it is very dangerous to hamsters. i had my hamster for 1 year an she was very healthy, and i used a different type of bedding all her life an she was fine with it. an then when i went to pets at home to buy some more they ran out so i tried a different bedding, a day after putting it in her cage she ate it an it clogged up her system, she became bloated an was coughing up blood and she was very close to death. we couldn't stand to see her in pain so we put her out of her misery which i think was a fair thing to do . A few months later my mum tried the same bedding and the exact same thing happened to her hamster so i recommend you do not use this product it could lead to DEATH.
This Bedding is extremely dangerous. I bought for my hamster from Pets at home and it got caught around my hamsters foot causing the blood supply to the foot to be cut off. Consequently his foot went extremely swollen and caused bleeding and infection. Some hamsters will bite there leg off to get the wool off because its so hard to remove, I had to cut the bedding off with scissors. My hamsters foot became infected and I had to take it to the vets for antibiotics. Fortunately he's OK. Other people have reported cases of hamsters being strangled by the bedding getting stuck around there neck. Also It can be ingested by hamsters blocking there gut and resulting in death.
Rotastak Snug and Cozy Small Pet Bedding is a good product that we have bought in the past for use with both hamsters and a gerbil. These little fellas liked nothing better than to hide themselves in this fluffy almost cotton wool crossed with kapok stuffing type of bedding material and snuggle up for a good old sleep. They also liked to drag it about and fuss over it to make the perfect bedding arrangement, so I feel it provided them with some extra interest. The Rotastak Snug and Cozy Small Pet Bedding is cheap to buy, goes a long way when in use and doesn't have a strong smell to it. The product comes bagged in a clear fronted plastic pouch type bag, which allows you to see the type of bedding material you are buying prior to purchase. At around £1.99 per bag the product is reasonably priced when compared to other choices that are around. ********************************************************** When out of the pack the Rotastak Snug and Cozy Small Pet Bedding has a nice softness to it thats perfect for little mammals such as hamsters, mice, gerbils etc to use as bedding. We found our hamsters and gerbil seemed to react rather well to this product and so would recommend it. It certainly didn't seem to cause any allergies or similar problems when in use, which can be a consideration with some more sensitive small pets. It can be easily fluffed up and made to cover a larger area, in the same way that cotton wool can be (not recommend for pets), with just a little light stretching and teasing out of the bedding. This made the bedding easier for our pets to work on the bedding and make it more comfortable for themselves. It also means that just one pack of the bedding can last near enough twice as long as you think it will when setting eyes on the size of the pack. The size of the bags we have bought were around 40cms by 20cms and held 60gs of the pet bedding within them. ********************************************************** The info about Rotastak Snug and Cozy Small Pet Bedding states that it is made from 100% pure vegetable fibres. I don't really recall exactly what fibres they were, but the mix seems to work well what ever they are. Its nice to know that there shouldn't be any thing in the product that will upset or cause irritation to your little hamster, mouse etc when using this. Its also non toxic and dust free, although if you place sawdust in your pets cages as we did, then do be prepared for the bedding to become covered in bits of that, if your pets are the types to move their bedding about from time to time as ours sometimes did. The fluffy open texture of the bedding material does seem to attract particles towards it so it won't stay as fresh and pristine to look at as when the off white contents are first taken from the pack. ********************************************************** Over all we found that when using the Rotastak Snug and Cozy Small Pet Bedding it worked well for our pets. It provided a warm and toasty bedding medium for our hamsters and gerbil to sleep in and on (not in the same cage of course). They certainly seemed to enjoy having it around them. We didn't find the product hard to handle and when it came to changing it for fresh bedding it was a simple matter of cleaning out the old bedding to make way for the newer stuff. We found that a little of the product certainly went a long way and meant that the £1.99 initial spend seemed rather good value for money. In terms of rating the product, I feel this ought to get 4 stars and would recommend it.
Alongside sawdust, one of the essentials for any hamster cage is soft bedding. Hamsters love to make cosy nests for themselves to sleep in, and the natural, soft bedding you can get in pet shops is perfect for this purpose. This Rotastak bedding is available from Pets at Home, amongst other shops, and is pretty good value at £1.99 for a 60g bag. This bedding comes in a clear plastic bag, which is easy to tear open, and sports a variety of cute animals on the front. The bag also provides some info about the bedding- it's made from 100% natural vegetable fibres, and is therefore non-toxic and biodegradable. It's also dust free, so shouldn't cause your pet any allergic reactions. It's suitable for guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, gerbils and mice. The directions for use are simple- separate a small amount of bedding, fluff it up and leave it in a nesting spot for your small animal. The bedding should be changed once a week to keep things clean and fresh. Unlike some hamster bedding I've come across, this is all white, and bears a strong resemblance to cotton wool. It feels very similar to the touch as well, although slightly softer. It's easy to separate the amount you need with a little gentle tugging- for my hamster, Gimli, I generally go for a handful, although I'm a bit more generous in the cold winter months. This amount, when fluffed up, half fills the little house where he sleeps, ensuring that when he's in there too, things are very snug. I sometimes leave a bit extra lying around the cage for him to add if he needs it- I think it's good for him to have an extra activity like 'hunt the bedding' to brighten up the boring hours in his cage! Hamsters are clever little creatures, and will quickly arrange things to their liking. Gimli soon turns a blob of fresh bedding into a perfectly shaped hamster bed, and usually pulls up a bit of sawdust around the edge of his house to keep things draft-proof! I'd recommend this bedding to all small pet owners- it's safe, clean, soft and good value. One bag of this will last a hamster for a good few months, ensuring that they're kept warm, snug and comfortable.
When I bought my son his first hamster the bedding that I chose to pick was the Rotastak snug and cosy bedding. It costs £1.99 from pets at home but I am sure you will be able to pick it up from other good pet stores. The bedding comes in a plastic sealed packet which is recyclable. On the front of the packet tells us that the snug and cosy bedding is an ultra soft small animal bedding and it shows us a picture of a guinea pig, mouse and a hamster. Inside the packet the actual bedding is a soft white material which is quite fluffy. We are also told on the packet that the bedding material is made from 100% natural, bio degradable fibres. It is also a non-toxic and non-irritant product which is really good to know as my little hamster Jasper sometimes puts the bedding in his mouth and decides to drag it around his cage! When I clean Jasper out I always replace his bedding and when I do so I just get a small amount of the white fluffy material and ruffle it a little bit in my hands so that it becomes a little bit bigger. I then place it into his bed ready for him going back into his cage. The bedding is soft to the touch and very fluffy. I can imagine that it is very cosy for a hamster to snuggle into when they are ready to go to sleep and I think that this is important as they do seem to spend a long time sleeping! I know that Jasper prefers this bedding over any other kinds I have tried and as such I always end up buying this product again. There doesn't appear to be a weight on the bag for the product but one bag usually lasts me around six to eight weeks so I think it is a decent enough value bedding at £1.99. I will continue to buy this product for my hamster as he seems to feel really snug and secure in it. As such I would award the product five out of five stars. Thank you for reading my review!
