Advantages: provides heat for outdoor animals, can help with medical conditions
Disadvantages: Can only be heated in the microwave
Although I like to pamper my dogs, I would not normally buy a product like this unless it was needed for a medical reason as my dogs are kept indoors so I don't feel they require any extra heat. However, one of my friends decided they wanted to spoil my two collies this Christmas and bought them a Snugglesafe Heat Pad each.
Price
The heat pad can be bought from the snugglesafe website www.snugglesafe.co.uk for £19.99. Some pet's stores in my local area also stock these for the same price.
Packaging
The snugglesafe heat pad comes in a purple box with various pictures of animals on it such as cats, rabbits etc. Unfortunately I am unable to say much more on the packaging as I threw it away as the snugglesafe's are now kept in my dog's basket. On the back of the box are instructions for use. A great thing about this product, apart from the obvious are that they instructions for heating are also written on the heat pad itself so there is no requirement to keep the box.
How To Use
Snugglesafe's work in a very similar way to a hot water bottle although they are much better. You pop them in the microwave for the required time (more about this later) and they retain heat for 10 hours making your pet's bed very cosy. It is clearly stated that overheating the heat pad is dangerous so always make sure you stick to the required heating times. The heating times are as follows:
1000 watt - 4.30 minutes
750 watt - 6.00 minutes
500 watt - 8.00 minutes
About The Snugglesafe Heat pad
The heat pad itself is a 9 inch disc and looks similar to a Frisbee although it is about twice the thickness. My discs are pink and I'm pretty sure they are available in other colours too although I am not 100% sure on this. The heat pad is scratch and bite resistant which means the product will last longer. If other people's dog are like mine, who like to pull or their bedding around and make a nest, then you will appreciate the hardiness of this product.
What Can The Pad Be Used For?
Personally, I used this product for my pets as a treat, every now and then, so they can have a nice warm bed. One of my dogs has epilepsy and after he has had a seizure, I always provide him with the heat pad as the seizures are quite fierce and they leave him body tired and his muscles aching.
This product would be great for anyone who keeps their dogs kennelled outside as it will provide them with heat throughout the winter and the heat would last through the night.
This product is also great for kittens and puppies that have been taken away from their Mum for the first time as it will provide them with the same sort of heat that they got from snuggling up with their Mum and litter mates.
I also keep reptiles and on the odd occasion that I have had to take my reptiles to the vets, I have used my snugglesafe to provide them with heat for the journey. I always ensure I put 2-3 tea towels over the top of the snugglesafe though as the heat pad is very warm at first and obviously I do not want me reptiles to burn their tummy's on the pad.
The heat pad can also be used for rabbits which I think is a lovely idea as it keeps them warm during cold weather.
Finally, this product can be used for pets with arthritis as the heat can help to alleviate any pain.
Summary
This product is great for anyone wanting to pamper their pet, or for anyone who keeps their pet outdoors. The other added bonus is that is also helps with medical conditions such as arthritis. For £19.99, I think this product is reasonably well priced too.
Summary: A great way to pamper your furry friend
