Advantages: Prevents selective feeding, cheap, no wastage

Disadvantages: Looks horrible, won't eat it!

I recently adopted a baby rabbit and initially I fed it on a quality rabbit mix (Russel Rabbit Junior). My rabbit liked to pick out the nice tasty looking bits and leave everything else. This is supposed to be bad for rabbits as they do not get the correct amount of nutrients as they are selectively feeding.

After a visit to my vet, I was given a sample of this all in one rabbit food. It looked like rabbit dropppings and didn't smell very nice either. My rabbit seemed to like them when fed occasionally one at a time. However, when I tried to tranfer him to the pellets he refused to eat them. You have to introduce it slowly mixed with the rabbit's normal food. It got to the point where I was throwing most of the pellets away and he was eating lots of hay. He got quite angry!

I was really annoyed because it's supposed to be good for his teeth and general health but he won't eat any of it! I don't think that it looks very attractive to the rabbit and I can't say what it tastes like but it can't be very nice. I have gone back to the rabbit mix where he is at least eating some of it. I would recommend it to other rabbit owners as it is high in fibre, nutrients and good for a rabbit's teeth. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to go down well with fussy rabbits. I would recommend buying a very small bag first, unfortunately I am left with a big bag of the stuff!

If my rabbit actually liked it, it would work out very cheap to buy. In theory, nothing is left behind or wasted. I bought a large bag for £2.99.

I think I am going to go for the force feeding approach. Put a little in his bowl with his normal food and feed him nothing else till he gets the idea of eating it. I really want him to eat this food. Thanks for the advice.
