      Play Time!!

I recently got two ferrets and am in the process of discovering all the ferrets toys that are available. As anyone who has read my ferret review will know, ferrets like to play! We get them out every day and let them have a run around the house or garden but we are finding that they are very inquisitive and any small hole they find, they will try and get through. This is where FerreTrail comes in handy as you can play them where you want and you know your ferrets are safe while they are playing and exercising.

      What Is FerreTrail?
FerreTrail basically produce different styles of tunnels and play items for ferrets and other animals such as rats, hamsters, guinea pig, chinchillas and gerbils. All FerreTrail products clip together meaning that you can create all sorts of whacky play areas for your furry little friends. Obviously the FerreTrail tubes are one of the main items produced by FerretTrail and they are designed to provide stimulation for your pets as well as allowing them to exercise at the same time.

      Where Can I Buy FerreTubes?
My local pet shops sells these and Pets at Home also sell these (not 100% sure their ones are made by FerreTrail though. I have also found quite a few of these tubes on eBay which is quite useful as they are cheaper on eBay than they are in my local pet store.

      Price
I my local pet store, each tube costs £2.99 so they are not that cheap really considering you will need quite a few tubes to link together and make a play area. The price isn't so bad if you are just buying one or two of the tubes to lace in their cage.

      How Do They Work?
The FerreTrail Tubes are made from ventilated see, see through plastic. The inside of the tubes are ridged so that your pet can get a grip inside the tube when they are climbing through them. These ridges are very useful for me as when I link the tubes together for my ferrets to play with then I can put them at all sorts of angles and they can still climb them with ease. Each FerreTube is about a foot long and about 4 inches in diameter. The tubes can either be left separate i.e. Only using one tube or you can link them all together to create a playground. When linking them together, you will find that they clip together with something called a 'connecter rings' and these come with the tubes when you buy them.

      Uses
Personally I only use these tubes during playtime with my ferrets as I don't want to crowd their hutch with loads of accessories and I want them to have room to move around. However, having said that, many people use the FerreTubes in their ferrets/rats cages for them to play on. They can be attached to the cage by metal chains and clips which can be attached at any angle.
      Varieties of Tubes
There are a wide variety of tubes including plain straight, curved corner and T-junction.

      Other Products By FerreTrail
FerreTrail produce quite a few nice toys for ferrets, lots of addition's that you can add to the FerreTrail tubes and really create a maze for your pet to play in. They produce wheels for larger animals such as rats and ferrets, as well as little play houses, the 'Bubble Wave' range of tunnels and Flex-e-funnel tubes which can be organised in the most bizarre combinations!

      Summary
I would certainly recommend this product to anyone with a ferret or rat. Although they are fairly expensive they are worth the money as they are made from rigid plastic meaning as long as you don't stand on them, they should last a long time. You can buy extra end pieces if you animal decides to nibble the edge of the tube (which means you don't have to replace to whole tube, you can just buy a clip on edge). My tubes provide hours of fun for my ferrets and really stimulate them (and gets them ready for bed!!)

      Disadvantages

      Good fun

I bought these plastic tubes for our first original hamster as they were colourful and I thought it would give her some much needed exercise. The set I bought were a red/pink, green, yellow and blue with plastic pink connecter circles. The tubes are ribbed and come in two pieces. Holding the two sides together you then click the pink plastic connecting tube over them. The next segment then clicks together in the same way. There are straight bits and curved sections which allows you to make any number of different shapes for your little furry animal to scurry around in. I used to mix the colours up as well so you had a yellow and green section together rather than two of the same colour. I don't think it has scarred my animals in any way.

I don't know if I enjoyed the making of these more than my hamster enjoyed playing in them, but that is a distinct possibility. I bought a few boxes of these tubes and made runs throughout our front room, which gave our hamster hours of fun, being good climbers I would have some standing upright, the ridges inside the tubes allowed 'Chip' to climb easily inside. The only limit to these is your imagination and as an adult I had a whale of a time. As these are see thorugh I could watch the fun Chip was having inside.

Being made of plastic, if they get chewed they can become quite sharp, so you need to check them regularly for wear and tear as this will stop your animal hurting itself. Also undoing them can be a struggle as they don't come apart that easily.

Only if you have money to burn!

Ferretrail tubes from from the land of America where they are just crazy about their ferrets. The colourful tubes connect together in all sorts of wonderful ways to create a tunnel system that your rats, ferrets and assorted small beasties will love. Unfortunately, your pocket wont.

Ferretrail tubes are brightly coloured and very attractive. They are obviously designed to attract kids but they will attract the grown-up animal loving kids among us too. The bright coloured plastic tubes look just great in a cage, or you can put together a big warren of them in your garden or living room for your spoiled small beasties to run around in.

They fit together in a similar way to the Habitrail tubes designed for hamsters and the like...they split in half for ease of cleaning, placed together you use a connecting ring to lock them together. They are easy to take apart to clean and put back together again. The connecting rings become worn after use and will need to be replaced occasionally.

These are fine for ferrets, as they wont normally tend to chew on plastic, however for rats they are a bit on the destroyable side. Anyone with rats knows that most of them can chew holes in things you would never think possible, so these soft plastic tubes are not going to last long with rats...or chinchillas come to think of it. Even with ferrets, their claws will eventually scratch the plastic and the lovely, clean, brightly coloured toys you bought for your animals will begin to look, well, a big mingin.

The only really big downside of the Ferretrail tubes, however, is the price. The RRP on the "Ferretrail Playground" (which consists of seven pieces of tubing and a "roll about ball" which is supposed to be the centre piece) is £32.99, and the cheapest I could find it online is £24.99. Twenty five quid for a handful of tubes is pretty steep, and if you want to add anything to your ferretrail playground the extra pieces basically cost a fiver each. So if you wanted to build a decent size playground for your small furries, it would cost you a fortune.

All in all, if you want to burn money on your pets, then go ahead, Ferretrail tubes are certainly bright and colourful. However the budget option is plastic drainpipe which can be bought for a fraction of the price from your local DIY store. I'm pretty sure your pets will use them quite as happily even though they dont come in pink and purple!!
