Advantages: It makes light work of the task at hand and provides an enjoyable groom for even the wiggliest pet
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I bought the Tender Care Slicker Brush in size medium, to groom my Whippet X Terrier, who is labrador height just a lot leggier (!!) and was so impressed I promptly ordered the small version for my Shih-Tzu X!
About the company;
Tender Care grooming supplies are manufactured by a company called Lawrence. Lawrence have been making various products since 1799, the first grooming tools being made by them being 'flesh gloves' and horsehair pads. They are known and acknowledged throughout the world as manufacurers of some the finest pet grooming tools available, and frequently the choice of professionals and champions.
Lawrence have a wide range Tender Care grooming products available including;
* Shedding blades (the curved tooth-edged metal loops)
* Hound gloves
* Slicker brushes
The slicker brushes are available for both cats and dogs, and in the following sizes;
Cats;
KIT-for kittens and small cats
KAT-for medium and large cats
Dogs;
Small-suitable for breed sizes such as Dachunds, Westies, Cairns and Corgis
Medium-suitable for breed sizes such as Labradors, Retrievers, Chow Chows, Airedales
Large-suitable for breed sizes such as Old English Sheepdogs, Irish Wolfhounds, Deerhounds, St.Bernards
They also come in different styles to suit certain breeds/hair types.
On to my findings.
As I previously mentioned, I bought the medium sized one for my Whippet X Terrier, and promptly bought a smaller one for my Shih-Tzu. These really are great! The cushioning means that they don't pull like a lot of conventional brushes do, and the collect the hair well, rather than scatter it all towards the base of the dogs body. I have never known my dogs to be so eager to be groomed!
I bought the first brush on recommendation from my dog groomer, after jokingly saying that I could do with a brush like that, I'd save myself a fortune! On returning home and having a few minutes to spare I decided to have a little scout about, inwardly shuddering at the thought of the cost, I mean if professionals use them they must be expensive, right?
WRONG!!!
The medium one was under £5.00!! I think I paid either £4.65 or £4.75, I can't remember which, and the smaller one was £3.72, online. Further snooping around since (If only I'd known about price comparison sites then!) has shown that you can order them from between £2 and £5, depending on the size/style.
Since then I've found several other uses for my Tender Care slicker, including lightly 'grooming' my flokati rug, collecting pet hairs from my carpets (though be warned, if you have deep pile carpets I imagine that this could seperate the fibres) and the best one yet, removing bags of hair from a very hairy, heavily moulting pony!
Summary: An absolutely fabulous tool that will make you wonder how you managed without! 10/10

- 08/07/08 I used the Mikki Slicker for my Bernese Mountain Dog, and the Kong Zoom Groom for my Rottie, but these sound brilliant- might have to look into one! Good review |
