Advantages: lifts loose fur off, my two love it, cheap, easy to use
Disadvantages: might not suit longhairs
I have in the past reviewed a couple of other grooming tools but this one is the king of grooming!
We've had ours for a few years and if your aim is to really remove excess fur this is the brush to do it. I have two cats as many of you know and when we need to take off loose fur we get the slicker out.
We're at that time of year now when my two go for a tussle, aim for the neck for a quick bite to incense the other one and come away spitting out mouthfuls of fur! It's likely to be a month or so before this stops happening (not the neck grip, that always happens, the loose fur issue!) so we're grooming them both at least once a week.
When I first bought this it was about £3 and I eyed it up in a shop and wondered if it would be too harsh for them. The head is angled to the handle so you can brush easily and the prongs, made of metal with no bobbles on the end which was my worry, are angled to the head of the brush so it really gets into the fur.
I bought one to try and immediately used it once we got home. The metal prongs do not seem to bother my two, they are shorthairs so I wasn't sure if it would scratch but it seems to be a delightful scratching sensation as my two love it. I targeted some very furry areas where I'd seen some loose tufts and it just lifted them right out.
You can brush either in the direction of the fur or against it if your cat will let you, mine love being ruffled the opposite way to the fur so they'll stand for both ways so I get all the loose fur off doing it both ways. When I'm done I have a brush load (or several depending on the time of year) of fur which I let them examine and sniff and sometimes cheek! They like to know what it's all about!
I clean ours out with a flea comb so it's easy to empty and rinse it sometimes to keep it clean which causes no problems to the brush itself. It's great for all over the body although I advise a light hand on the tummy area or around the head and ears and really gets that loose fur off.
I'm not sure if this would be suitable for longhairs, probably it would depend how long as the prongs are quite close together and not terribly long so it may just get tangled up in longer fur. But for shorthairs you can't beat this for a really thorough groom.
Highly recommended by me and my boys.
Summary: Highly recommended
