Advantages: My dog loves them
Disadvantages: You can only buy them at Tesco
Having recently acquired a young puppy I find I have a whole new range of products to try out on the supermarket shelves. I like to find little treats for him and as I recently read a review on these treats I thought I would look for them the next time I was in Tesco so that I could try them out on my puppy.
What are they?
They are little bone shaped biscuits which are about three inches long and which are flavoured with Eucalyptus and Parsley. According to the packet they also contain natural oils for healthy skin and coat. They come in a fairly plain box which is white with a picture of a sad dog on the front and there is no real indication on the packet how big the biscuits are inside. That probably isn't a problem for anyone with a big dog but if, like me, you have a small dog then it haleps if you have an idea how big they are.
Now eucalyptus and parsley seems a strange combination in a biscuit to me and you can smell the eucalyptus when you open the packet but little Ellery has no preconceived ideas about flavour combinations so it didn't worry him a jot what I thought - he relies on whether it tastes good.
Suffice it to say that the first biscuit was demolished pretty quickly and there wasn't a crumb left on the carpet (although they were a few made as he ate it). I take that to be a pretty good indication that he likes them very much especially as he has been pretty keen to finish the packet.
The nutritional information on the packet is pretty limited and I would have liked to know more. Sadly Ellery decided to destroy the box as soon as I had transferred the biscuits to his biscuit jar. However I did manage to deduce that they contain:
Cereals
Vegetables
Oils & fats
Meat & animal derivatives
Minerals
Sugars
Derivatives of vegetable origin
Colourants
EC additives
so no good to give a dog a balanced diet in my view but fine I suppose as an occasional treat.
Would I recommend them?
Yes I would, they cost £1.19 for 400g and Ellery likes them. I will only use them as a treat now and again, largely when I want him to sit quietly for a few minutes instead of chasing the cats round the garden! The smell of eucalyptus is noticeable but not unpleasant in my view as I quite like the smell of it.

Summary: A good way to keep a puppy quiet for a few minutes

- 23/10/09 These sound really good- I think Grace and Benson would love them. I don't normally shop at Tesco but I might go out of my way to treat them one day! |
