Disadvantages: The veggie biscuits....

INTRODUCTION

My cat has just turned fourteen years old making her ninety eight years old in cat years, so she is a bit of a grandma now and has become very fuzzy in her old age.

Over the last few years she seems to have become a bit forget full and has now decided that she no longer likes to leave the house and now dislikes wet meat, although this is only on occasions as she will still lick her whiskers when the food pouches come out of the fridge.

Anyway the forgetfulness has come as she seems to have forgotten that she has been fed and constantly meows for more, so I have tried many things such as feeding her smaller amounts more frequently but this made her even worse so the vet recommended I try her on a dry complete biscuit alongside her wet food twice a day, the vet told me her teeth were perfectly fine so I thought I would give it a go.

While shopping in Tesco a few months ago I came across these premium cat crunchies and thought I would give them a try as they were relatively cheap and I did not really want to spend much as I thought the cat would instantly turn her nose up.

THE PRODUCT

These Cat biscuits are a Tesco branded product, they are not the value range but of a slightly higher quality which Tesco call their premium range.

The biscuits are called premium cat crunchies and come in various flavours but the ones I bought were with duck, rabbit, chicken and vegetables.

Which actually sound very appealing as these were all of the flavours the cat adores when I feed her meat.

Anyway these tiny little biscuits are the size of your small finger nail, so they are small enough even for older cats to consume without much effort, these little biscuits are basically what I would call mis-shapes as they don't really have a shape to them.

The biscuits are also very crunchy so beware as you cat will make a real noise chewing their way through them, I have been known to awake in the night chomping through her biscuits which was really surprising as her food bowl was down stairs in the kitchen.

After opening the first box I was amazed as these did not really smell, but saying that I didn't really know what to expect as these were all new to me and the cat.

The different flavours are determined by colour the chicken, rabbit and duck biscuits are shades of brown ranging from dark to light brown and the vegetable content are dark green in colour.

The cat really enjoys these and the meat flours are always devoured fully, but I do have to laugh as she always leaves the green veggie biscuits, I really amuses me as she never lifts her head from the bowl but still manages to pick out all of the green biscuits, it just goes to show that animals hate veggies too.

PRICE / AVALIBILITY

The first time I bought these I got them in a one kilo box, which cost roughly 90p and filled the cat bowl for about a week, so for the price it was a risk I was willing to take but it has paid off for me now.

After seeing that the cat actually started to rely on these biscuits I started to buy the larger four kilo bags, which cost £3.79 and are currently lasting six weeks at a time, so I have found the bigger bags to be much better value for money.

MY OPINION

These complete cat biscuits have worked really well for all of us as the cat no longer meows all of the time and she now has a constant supply of food for whenever she is peckish.

I have always been fearful of leaving the wet meat in the bowl to long as it attracts flies and germs especially at this time of year but these biscuits can be left for as long as they need to be as they are dry and the biggest bonus is the fact that they do not stink the house out.

I have to be honest and say that the cat did not take to these straight away but as soon as she realised that this was all she was getting, apart from her two wet meat feeds a day she soon learned to like them, I don't think she will ever eat the green veggie biscuits so these are always chucked away before I refill the bowl every day.

It has been two months and the cat is now converted into a wet and dry food eater, which is something I never ever thought I would see, but the vet was completely right I don't think she realised she had already been fed, so buying these biscuits has not only saved my ears but has made my cat a lot happier.

I highly recommend these if you are trying to convert your cat from wet meat to a dry complete food, I would happily feed these to my cat and stop with the wet meat but as she is so old I felt that it would be a bit unfair, so now she only has minimal amounts of meat and it is saving me a fortune.

Summary: Highly recommended by me and my old girl.

All three of my cats like these. You should try your cat on another box of biscuits from Tesco that are a little more expensive (60p for a 200g box I think). The box is white, not sure what they're actually called though. I got them as a treat for my cat one Christmas when they were half price and fed him a sprinkling of them on top of his food and he didnt ask me for as much food because they really seemed to fill him up. Might help with your cat too.
