Advantages: Treats tap water, Fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Can get a bit messy
If you're new to the world of goldfish this product is a must!! I can't stress that enough! You must not put goldfish into ordinary tap water. Instead you must add some Tetra Aquasafe. This does 3 things: It removes all heavy metals from the tap water, neutralises chlorine and coats the fish with a protective covering. You are able to but Tetra Aquasafe from all fish shops, and also mail order. Usually the mail order is cheaper. You are also better off getting a large bottle of it too if you intend to change the water frequently. It will dis colour the water very slightly to a blue colour but this is natural. Once it has been mixed in the water for about 15 minutes you are able to add the fish to it. This product is NOT to be missed out of any fish keepers kit!

- 13/08/01 a good op but a bit more detail would have helped - e.g. you must use this every time you change your goldfishes' water, you must also ensure that the new water is at the same temperature as the old. it's kinder to the fish to only change a proportion of the tank water - say 25% rather than the whole lot.
A cheap alternative to Aquasafe is to run a bucket of water and keep it overnight so that it 'ages' before putting the fish in it.
I hope you enjoy your goldfish! I had one that lived for over 8 years, I still miss him! |
