Advantages: Soft and cosy
Disadvantages: Expensive
Molly, our little dog was a little rescue puppy, and ever since we got her, she's had a lot of problems with her health. I think we've just given into the fact that she's a little dog who's always going to be visiting the vet!
A couple of weeks ago, when she was going through another sickly period, I woke up in the middle of the night to find her shivering and trying to squeeze into our bed, despite having her bed full of blankets beside us! As she had been sick a lot, and losing weight, I think she was feeling the cold more than usual.
I figured then it was time to get her a new bed, as the blankets she had clearly weren't enough for her.
I had spotted the Vet Bed the last time we had went the the pet shop, and had heard good things about it. Although it seemed quite expensive for what it was - not really a 'bed' more a small flat blanket! - we decided to try it, as it felt lovely and soft and cosy.
The Bed itself is really just a dquare of material, cut in different sizes so you are able to pick based on the size of your dog.
It is made of a soft lambswool-feel material, and backed with hard-wearing green felt.
The one we picked was just big enough for Molly to stretch out on, she is an Alsation cross, so quite big, and this cost around £20.
The first thing we realised when we got the bed out was that due to the firmer backing material, it woudln't fit into her bed like any other blanket, and could only be used lying flat itself.
Molly was very wary of it to begin with, which isn't like her at all - she's usually desperate to curl up on anything soft! However, we put it in front of the fire, and after a while, she lay on it - probably more because it was in 'her space' at the fire!
However, she continues to be quite funny with the blanket, and won't lie on it if it's anywhere else but in front of the fire. I feel a couple of the times she's lay on it and got up again it's made a staitc sort of crackling, as though her fur is rubbing on it, which isn't great.
The first time Molly was left alone with the bed, she managed to eat a small hole in the middle of it, and although the hole was only about the size of a 50 pence peace, the ammount of fluff that appeared from it was amazing! Took ages to clear up, so not a bed to buy if your dog's a chewer!
Overall, the Vet Bed isn't really as it says - I wouldn't call it a 'bed' as such, more just a blanket. Quite an expensive blanket at that, given that Molly still tries to get into our bed on the cold nights!
Summary: Nice soft blanket, but not really worth the money
