Advantages: Easy to use, keeps food fresh, good price, Magic loves it
Disadvantages: None
I've never really been an animal lover to be honest, but we had a few pets in our house growing up, a rabbit and a hamster which were my brothers, and 2 goldfish which were mine. We then went on to get a German Shepherd who is still going strong today, and it made me realise Harry might like a pet of his own. He has an obsession with cats so my fiance and I made the decision to get him a kitten of his very own! So our 8 week old black kitten Magic was welcomed into our family last Sunday, and Harry is totally in love with him!
I haven't got a clue about feeding cats or anything about cats to be honest, so after acquiring Magic, we went straight to the Supermarket to buy him some food to settle him in. The breeder we purchased him from told us to get either Whiskas or Felix, and we decided to opt for Whiskas kitten food. You can buy it in can or pouches, and we decided it would be easier and cleaner to have pouches, so we bought one box in case he didn't like it but luckily he loves it.
Whiskas have been been making cat food since 1936, when they traded under the name of Kal Kan, but changed to Whiskas in 1988, and are one of the most trusted cat food producers in the UK, and the world. Whiskas produces many types of cat food, from pouches and can, to dried food and snack and treats too. Whiskas do 3 types of kitten food: Kitten Pouches in Jelly, Kitten pouches in Gravy and Kitten dry. This kitten food is aimed at Kitten under one year old, and contain all the essential nutrients needed to grow into a healthy cat.
We opted to go for Kitten pouches in Jelly, as that is what he was fed at home and we wanted to keep him on the same type of food. Being in jelly, it means that the kitten food is nice and moist and easy for them to digest as well. The pouches come in boxes of 12 or 24, and have 4 different flavours inside: Tuna, Cod, Turkey and Chicken. There are 3 pouches of each, and each pouch holds 100 grams of Kitten food. Magic has 3 meals a day, and has 1/2 a pouch at a time, so the box of 12 pouches we buy lasts us about 8 days which isn't too bad. Whiskas Kitten food contains Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Calcium, protein and calories.
All 12 pouches are in a cardboard box (please recycle!), in the distinctive Whiskas purple, with the flavours displayed on the front, and a picture of a sweet kitten. The flavour is written on the top of each pouch so you can easily see it when the pouches are stored away in their box. The pouches are really easy to use, and nice and clean as well. You simply tear off the top of the pouch, which has a tab to pull off and this comes away from the rest of the pack very easily. I then locate the middle of the pouch with my fingers and just press it down until it slides out into Magic's food bowl. Being in jelly, it slides out really easily and ends up a big slab in his bowl, so I use a spoon just to chop it up a bit to make it easier for him to eat. Also, the pouches are made from foil so keep the kitten food fresh and moist.
The food itself is tiny chunks of meat which are gently cooked to make them tasty for your kitten, and the jelly coats them nicely and makes it even more tasty. Even though there are 4 flavours, each of the foods looks the same, a light brown colour with a dark yellow jelly all over. The smell does differ, with the chicken and turkey pouches smelling fairly pleasant (As far as cat food goes!), whereas the Cod and Tuna ones do smell quite pungently of fish, and I'm not at all keen on this smell! But once Magic has eaten up, I quickly wash the bowl and the smell doesn't linger too much. As Magic only has 1/2 a pouch at a time, I just fold the top of the foil pouch over and pop a peg on it, and that keeps it nice and fresh until his next meal!
So far, Magic has really taken to his Whiskas kitten food, and manages to finish virtually every meal we put in front of him! He seems to like all the flavours, and he is a healthy cat so far, with a great appetite, shiny coat and playful temperament! The pouches are convenient, keep the food fresh and contain a good amount of food for your kitten. 12 pouches in Sainsburys cost me £3.38 which lasts 12 days, so I think that is great value! I am glad we decided to start Magic of Whiskas, and I'd definitely recommend this to all kittens!
