Advantages: Easily opened, portable, my kitten loved them

Disadvantages: Lot of packaging, smell

Way back when my cat Fuzz Lightyear was a kitten (she's 9 this year), we bought Whiskas Kitten Pouches for her. We did try her on quite a few different brands of kitten food which she tended to take or leave depending on her mood. She is quite a fussy eater, and she's got worse over the years and will now only erat Felix pouches or human food. But I digress.

This food gets progressively cheaper the more in bulk you buy it, and sometimes they have 2 for 1s on in supermarkets, so keep a look out. They often come in packs of 12 - chicken, cod, turkey and tuna. There was always one flavour Fuzz didn't like (I can't remember which), which meant we often accidentally stockpiled this and had loads around! So that's one thing to consider if your kitten is fussy.

Fuzz started by licking the jelly off the meat (I think that was her favourite part); she'd then slowly eat up the meat over a period of time.

When she was hungry she'd run in (and still does), going 'waaaaa' - unfortunately she's never mastered a proper meow bless her - until someone gave in and went to feed her. Once she was satisfied you were heading into the utility room with the intension of feeding her, she'd race off to be found 'waaing' by her bowl and rubbing against your legs. So she was pretty keen on this food.

Other than the fact it's quite expensive, the only downside I noticed was that it smells horrible. All the flavours smell the same to me - like typical food in jelly it's quite strong and not pleasant. Because of this you probably don't want to be feeding your kitten in the kitchen or a room you spend a lot of time in, especially if it's going to be out for a few hours. I'd also recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight.

The pouches are easy enough to open as you can just tear the top off with your hands, and they are foil on the inside for freshness. This has the advantages of you being able to tell what a correct meal size is and is quite portable; however it does mean that there is a lot of packaging waste.

Summary: Our cat is 9 this year and still around to tell the tail!
