Advantages: More hygienic than tinned food, Less wasteful than tinned food

Disadvantages: A bit messy, Expensive

I have two cats - Jules and Cleo. Jules is basically a greedy git and will eat everything that's put in front of him (and has even been known to sneakily take a mouthful or two of Cleo's food when she's not looking). Cleo, on the other hand, is a fussy little madam and has an extremely discerning palate.

I had always bought tinned cat food and biscuits for my cats but Cleo, from the minute we picked her up from the RSPCA had made up her mind that nothing but the best would do for her. I persevered over the first couple of weeks and tried to get her to eat cheaper varieties of meat but to no avail - and then a free sample of Whiskas pouches dropped through my door. I shared it out between Cleo and Jules; Jules instantly gobbled it down (nothing new there!) and, after a bit of a sniff and a delicate taste of the gravy, Cleo was also hooked.

Cleo's now been with us for about eight months and is still enjoying Whiskas pouches. Admittedly it's costing me a small fortune in cat food and I'm shortly going to have to take out a second mortgage to keep her in the manner to which she's become accustomed, but I have to say that the pouches do seem to go down a treat with both cats.

I find the recommendations for feeding them (if my memory serves me correctly) three pouches a day each, is rather excessive. My two get through one pouch a day between them - but then I do make sure they have dry food left down during the day, too.

The pouches are superb for the Summer months when cats tend to eat less - I used to find tins of food were going off as the cats weren't getting through them quickly enough, but with individual pouches I no longer have that problem. The pouch is opened in the morning and has gone by the evening.

The pouches, I find, are a little messy to open though - I tear the top off as recommended but normally find that, by the time I've squeezed the last little bit of gravy or je
lly from the packet, I've got jelly/gravy over my hands.

On the whole, despite the price, I will continue buying pouches, not least because BOTH cats love them. On top of that, I find that it's easier and more hygienic to have sealed pouches lying around in the cupboard than open tins which attract flies in the Summer months.

Ahh those free pouches they send out - designed to get your cats hooked on expensive cat food! Cool review, cute (and naughty) sounding cats.
