Advantages: Initially Exciting (for the cat)

Disadvantages: Ears come off

"Willow's Nibble and Gnaw Mice Catnip Toy is the fun way for your cat to play".

Catnip is a peculiar thing - it can drive cats wild, making them dash across the room and roll around wildly, yet it doesn't have any noticeable effects on humans. Some cats aren't affected by it either - our previous feline wouldn't take the blindest bit of notice - even if you sprayed it on his tail.

The cat I have now is heavily affected by the 'drug' which is contained within many toys designed for our furry friends - one such product is Willow's 'Nibble and Gnaw Mice Catnip Toy', which costs £2.44 for two from Pets at Home.

The rodent shaped treats are made from hessian, and contain 100% natural catnip which the manufacturers claim will "provide your cat with hours of frenzied fun". But did the cat like them?

I entered the room and chucked one in the cats direction. At first, she approached cautiously and had a sniff around. Suddenly her pupils enlarged and her ears went back - the catnip had taken hold. Picking up the mouse in her mouth, she dashed onto the sofa and started rolling around on top of her new toy - this resulted in one of the ears coming off! (I mean the mouse's ear, not the cat's ear...). Ten minutes later, the novelty had gone - and since that initial play, she hasn't been excited by the mouse since. She will occasionally flick it around the room - but for no more than a couple of seconds at a time.

If your cats are affected by catnip, you may want to give Willow's Nibble and Gnaw mice a go - working out at around £1.20 each, they aren't going to break the bank should your cat not like them. Just watch out for the ears coming off if your cats are aggressive players - in fact, the instructions do mention that "For your pet's safety, examine the toy from time to time for wear and tear and replace when appropriate".

I would moderately recommend this product, although some cats will like it more that others.
