loopy-lou33 Giant African Land Snails: ... son is one of those annoying kids who every time he sees an animal says "can we have one of those?", usually accompained by tears and sulks when the inevitable answer is no. The problem is that no matter how well intentioned he is, I know mugsy (me) will end up looking after it after he has lost interest. Pets require lots of dedication and devotion. It is only fair to them, as well as a lot of thought a...

Katy_roberts85 Giant African Land Snails
... We got a Giant African Land Snail from our friends for Christmas 2008, he is now affectionately known as Mr Slow. ~~Description~~ Mr Slow arrived with us about the size of a small marble. He liked burying himself in soil and hiding away. With much persistence he has grown - his shell is now the size of a tennis ball and when extended his both is the length and thickness of a small banana. I think they are really odd pets but he does serve up some amusement. He slurps his way around his tank, we like his feelers that pop out as he searches his way around. It s also pretty cool to see his body rippling (the muscle wave) that enables him to move around, yo...

ns1209 Bees (Apoidea)
... really like bees. I think they are very clever and think they are also hardworking and work in a team. They all work for their queen and all have different roles and work as a community to get the job done. Also I really like natural honey! I love the sweet runny honey which is delicious! So naturally I like bees as they make a delicious product which can be spread on toast, sandwiches and even be used in things like yoghurt to make it taste sweeter! One bad thing with bees though is that they can sting you but only if they think you are going to hurt them. Unlike horrible wasps they don`t sting you for no reason. However bees normally die if they sting you so t...

Claribella House Fly
... s the heat of summer and you are welcoming the fact that you can swing open the doors and windows without being frozen and within minutes of doing this you hear BUUUZZZZZZZZZZZ . You look around and fear that it might be a bloody great bee because the sound is so loud but then you realize it is a harmless housefly........or is it harmless? Well I can tell you that they eat in way that will make you sick (no pun intended!),. They spit on their food, then eat it, then sick it up again and then eat it again. So next time a fly briefly lands on your plate then don t carry on eating!!!! They land on poo and eat the stuff before flying around your home, sitting on your w...
