Advantages: clever

Disadvantages: climb up trousers

Ants are cool in my book. They have that really cool work ethic, and they work in teams. They each have different roles, and just watch a bunch of them carrying twigs or the like and you can't help but fall in love with them.

Sadly, there's a problem with them, which is that they get everywhere. Because they always come in numbers, where you find one you'll find lots and lots, and that scares people (including me). They can climb any surface, and many's the time I've sat on a nest and found them crawling up my legs: yuck!

Sadly, they are easy to kill and often end up dead. One smudge with a thumb will do it, or a magnifying glass if you're feeling energetic.

They are so small that you can't really see their features, which means they are hard to warm to or feel sorry for. Many is the hot kettle full of steaming water that has washed them away, and I have to say I've been involved there too.

Ants are like bees in some respects; they work as a team for the greater good, and I have to say that appeals to me. We can learn a lot from ants in today's world (oh how deep).

If you like them, watch the film 'Antz', which pays them a respectful homage.

All in all, ants are clever little things but they look nasty and tend to find their way into your pants which gives them a bad rap.

Summary: love em!

Though I don't want legions of them invading my house, I think ants are brilliant!
