Oh bee-have! (Bees (Apoidea))

Bees are very very cool; I should know, because I recently watched 'Bee Movie'.

The best thing about bees is the way they all work and live together. They have a real community ethic, working for their queen, and the way they have different roles in the hive is amazing. For me, it's just as impressive as the way ants have a similar lifestyle.

The second best thing about bees is the way they make gorgeous honey: mmm. A lady from work has her own hives and I bought a pot of their honey - so sweet, rich and treacley it was great. Of course, honey never goes off, which is why thousand year old stuff found in the pyramids is still OK to spread on a bit of toast.

The worst thing is the way they can sting. Now we all know they aren't bad ass like the wasps- they don't just attack for no reason. However, they can attack if they perceive a threat, and a sting can kill you (at the very least it really hurts). Now for a creature supposedly so anti-aggressive, it sure does seem that bees get into our faces a lot, flying right into us and hovering around to see if we are a flower. With those two things together, it's a recipe for us swatting them out of the way and then them stinging us - nasty.

As a child I was stung on the neck. That's pretty bad, but my mum put her shoe on and was stung by one in there - to this day (thirty years later), she checks every shoe before putting it on!

All in all, bees are very clever creatures. They work hard and help out with pollination, not to mention making honey. However, they invade our space at will, and are prone to stinging which really hurts.
