Advantages: A loyal cat that loves cuddles and kisses and looks stunning

Disadvantages: Can be expensive and may be agressive towards young people who might antagonise it

I have been owned by Elton, my Bengal cat for just under two years now and I had to write to let other people know about this beautiful breed. Not only do these animals look stunning- just like a miniture leopard, they also have the most amazing temperament.
Whereas cats are known for being aloof, this breed is as devoted as a dog - they will follow you to the toilet and even join you for a bath (they love water) I am almost convinced that elton thinks he is a dog as he too has a special toy (a soft miniture walrus) that we play fetch with - he will actually bring it back and drop it at your feet - which is cute until the 30th time and he still wants to play. Animal lover Rolf Harris has one which he considers the most special pet he has owned as well as other celebs such as model cindy jackson, prince amin, certain it girls etc. F1 generation are the most expensive as these are bred direct from the asian leopard cat and F2,F3 F4 etc get cheaper respectively - although show and stud quality are the most expensive. Bengals do grow a bit bigger than normal tabbys and need a lot of stimulation( I take mine out for walks!) and they tend to eat quite a bit. Their coat needs brushing about once a week and because of the relative newness of the breed I would advise taking out pet insurance to cover any fees. Because of their striking looks I was advised by my breeder not to let elton outside unwatched as they tend to get stolen (especially in my area which is notorious for cat theft- really!)Although I am not a breeder I would be happy to try and answer any questions that you may have about this breed, because as you my have guessed it has totally won my heart.

Take Elton to the vet to get him checked out, it may be a medical problem. Clean the sofa with biological washing liquid & then white spirit. Put the cat's bedding, or food on the sofa.

I've just read your question about Elton messing up the sofa. Have you tried applying perfume to the sofa? It might be a wee bit expensive, but scent plays a big part in their choice of location. Some brands of mouthwash and cleaners also work.

The problem is that even after thorough cleansing, the smell can become evident again after about a week. Thus the secondary objective is after cleaning is masking the smell.

Please do tell how you get on.
