Advantages: None at all
Disadvantages: Expensive, stains cat's paws, doesnt' stop odours
Living in a 3rd floor flat, my formerly outdoor-loving kitty Bubble has now become a house cat (mainly because he can't seem to get the hang of going down the stairs etc).
Because of this, I had to get him used to the litter tray, which I have to say he did brilliantly!
He is the most meticulous, clean cat you would ever like to meet. If his litter tray is too dirty he won't go near it. At the same time though he won't go to the toilet anywhere else unlike some cats which will find any convenient corner. Come to think of it maybe he does but I just haven't found it yet! Oops, a little scouting later might be in order.
Anyway, being rather on the large size (he has been compared to a horse and certainly sounds like one when galloping around the flat), I needed to find a good, heavy duty litter to go in his (covered) litter tray.
I have tried loads which were fairly rubbish I have to say, but this one allegedly kept odours down as it was highly absorbent clay.
Well I picked up a bag in my local Tesco and took it home to try on Bubble.
On opening the bag I found the litter to be a reddy - brown colour (like clay, obviously), which is unlike the usual white or grey colour you get with cat litter.
The litter itself is fairly small granules. I poured the same amount as usual in the tray and left Bubble to it.
Well. When I went into the living room a couple of hours later I found to my horror reddish brown marks all over my lovely cream sofa covers and rug. Not to mention the trail of granules and dust all over the floor. On closer inspection of Bubble the bottom of his paws were stained with the clay and he was leaving little paw prints everywhere.
This I could maybe have coped with if it wasn't for the fact that I could smell the litter tray in the next room! I thought maybe it was because he had just 'gone' so decided to leave it a while before making any judgements.
After using this litter for a week or so however, I noticed no discernible difference between this litter and any other (cheaper) alternative.
I then decided to go back to the £1.19 tesco own brand that I normally use and works just as well, except it is greyish white and doesn't stain Bubbles paws , or anything else.
At £4.69 for 8 litres of the stuff I definitely think this is very poor value for money.
Of course it was a little while ago that I last bought this so the price may have now gone down (or up), but I would suggest avoiding this as you will just be wasting your money unless it works differently with smaller cats and you will have to change all your decor to clay-coloured to match the stains!
Summary: Expensive litter which doesn't deliver
