Advantages: They will LOVE YOU forever

Disadvantages: Can be a little lively

Well, what can I say my dog is the most insane, maddest, frustrating dog in the world, but I love him sooo much!

Just to let you know before buying any dog you should be fully aware of the commitment you are making, it will be hard if you have a young family and a dog or puppy, making sure it isn't on its own for too long, etc. It isn't anything to take likely, so please take this into consideration before buying or rescuing one as they are not always the easiet, which is why so many end up in RSPCA and other likes.

I bought my border collie as a pup and to be honest it is one of the best things I have ever done. Border collies in general are well known as being energetic and this is certainly true, they need walks at least once a day and long runs in the park or roams through the woods are good. As for all this energy they also need quite large gardens to run around and play in, it would be cruel to have a dog if you have next to none of a garden. I wouldn't reccomend them to the older age group because of all the energy and time they consume.

They are also well known for this obidience, but believe me THIS TAKES WORK! Just because they are well known for this doesn't mean that they are immediatley the best dogs in th world and know exactly how to behave. Saying that though they are very quick learners, I got my border collie at just 7 weeks and by 10 weeks or so he already (sort of) understood sit and stay, whereas when I had huskeys or other dogs before it took so much longer!

They typically need feeding about twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. When they get older they do not need to be fed as much though, as they simply do not need the intake.

The colours of Border Collies is typically known as the Black and white sheep dog look, but they do come in other varities of colours, min being a browny ginger and white.

Despite the endless amount of attention and energy these dogs have they really are very affectionate and are the best companion. They will listen to your troubles (without telling you that you are wrong!), sit by you and most of all love you and I mean really LOVE YOU. They show so much affection for their owners and you can really tell this in everything they do.

So if you are looking for a fun and loving dog then I'd reccomend a Border Collie, but make sure you are certain as no decision should be taking lightly! I think these would suit families with 8/9 year olds and teenagers!

Summary: Don't make any decision lightly
