Advantages: You get more satisfaction talking to a budgie than you do talking to goldfish
Disadvantages: noisy!
I have always liked birds. My gran got a budgie about 4 years ago (she paid £10 for it) and I got one a month or two after. I only paid £4! Its a yellow Lutino Hen. A lutino is like an Albino, but with Yellow feathers and 'less-red-eyes!) People say that yellow budgies are a bit more shy than other budgies - i only wish mine was! As soon as someone comes through the door its all over them! Surprisingly, budgies are good company - if you can get one to talk you can have a basic conversation with it. It would have to consist of "Hello", "Lets go to Blackpool", "Put the bloody kettle on" and so on....! Mine can't talk, and I don't know if it is because she can't be bothered learning or that female budgies can't talk - my ever so [not] intelligent grandma says that female budgies don't talk. Im not sure if she is right though. Budgies thrive on company, so if you are never in the house a budgie is not the pet for you. When you do go out just leave the radio on. Talk Sport is the supposed to be the best for budgies (does this mean that 95% of Talk Sports listners are feathered birds!), but my budgie (called Tweety - because its yellow! How origional) listens to Radio 1! You have to be careful not to over feed your bird too. Or the budgie! (geddit?) If you keep filling the food dish up all the time, it will keep going back for more and more,an it will become over weight. I put about half a dish-full in every day, and that is just about right. Change its water everyday, change the sandpaper every three days or so and you away! It's reccommended that you let them have an hour of flight per day, but if your budgie is tame, you may as well leave the cage door open most of the time, so it can come out when it wishes. Make sure you close the windows though! I didnt on one occasion, but it came back after a couple of hours - don't know where i
t went or how it got back, but it did!
