Advantages: Scares of people you don't want to talk to.

Disadvantages: Scares of people you do want to talk to! Hurts when they step on your toes!

We've had a few family dogs, and I loved them all, but today I'm going to tell you about the joys my bull mastiff brings into my life (along with the pains!)
I know this will be a biased opinion because I love my dog, but believe it or not I am not an animal lover. I mean I don't hate them, but I don't bond with them either. Barney on the other hand is difficult not to bond with.
In case anyone is unsure what bull mastiff's look like, heres a brief description; they are big, muscley, squashed and wrinkly faced, droopy eared, slobbery creatures.
They appear to be savage due to their size, but are in fact soft unless trained to be a guard dog. I don't like to tell many people this fact however, because watching horror spread accross someones face when they look at Barney brings me great amusement. You are however, more in danger of being knocked over by the galloping hound than bitten. I am not sure which is worse!
Bull Mastiff's do require quite alot of attention and looking after. It is very important that you have enough room for one before deciding to have it for a pet. They eat alot, and also need alot of exercise. Barney has the freedom of our back garden, much to his joy, although he prefers being in the house around people. He gets lonely and sulks if we leave him alone for too long. He loves to follow me around the house, but unfortunatley has a habit of tripping me up. I'm sure he does it on purpose! He is also good with children, my younger cousins all love to play with him.
Other than that they are good dogs. They don't chew, and are obidient to their master, but don't take the blindest bit of notice to anyone else. My Dad is Barneys master, and the ONLY person he'll listen to.
