Advantages: Affectionate, entertaining, individual
Disadvantages: Dead mice
I've never been a mad cat lover, preferring dogs, until I somehow acquired my George. Now, I love cats, but him in particular.
Cats are not like dogs at all, for one they do what they want, when they want to. They do not like being told what to do. They are flighty, dramatic (why else are they sick all over quilt covers, just before you leave the house?). They can be very affectionate one minute and downright evil the next. Dogs want to please their owners, owners need to please their cats. They have their little mad fits, stare into space, catch spiders and sadly, also mice, which I would rather wasn't brought into the kitchen.
They do shed a fair bit of hair and they need a bit of training to not scratch furniture.
My George is a beautiful, handsome boy, proud looking, but absolutely mad. He's a rescue cat and yes, he took a bit of time to settle down, he was very scared when I first got him, but well worth it. Say what you like about them, but they are not boring. They are great additons to the family and a look round the local rescue centre is a great idea if you think you can handle a pet, because they do use up time and money and they aren't always going to behave how you want them to.
Summary: Purr-fect kitties
