Advantages: independent and small.

Disadvantages: disloyal

The most common pets are cats and dogs in households alongside your rodents. You can get a kitten for anything between £5 and £500 these days. I've heard of rarer breeds or special cats like the persian ones that cost a lot and some people just charge more money for kittens to ensure they get a better home.

If you're a working person or you're quite busy, I think that a cat would be more suitable for you than a dog. You don't have to spend half as much time with them as you would a dog because they learn quicker and are a lot more independent. You don't have to do any training with cats to achieve better behaviour because a cat isn't going to get a lot bigger. Also, you don't have to take a cat to the park for a run or on walks because you can loose them out for a while and they get their exercise then although I still like to engage and play with my cat.

You can end up spending a lot of money on a cat in the end once you've bought everything you need. If you're thinking about buying a cat, here's a list of some of the things you'll need:
- cat bed £15
- litter tray £5
- cat litter £3
- cat £30 approx
- food £5+
- collar £2
- cat scratch post £10

It's expensive, but it still isn't as expensive as a dog.

Cats are smarter than dogs in my opinion although some people may disagree. Dogs are lovely, I'm a fan of both, but I find that cats don't knock things/people over like dogs do and it's rare that cats make a mess. I also find cat poo much more comvenient to throw away from a little tray than going around the garden with a poo bag.

With a cat, you can have some affection from them and many cats will sit on your lap and purr whilst you stroke them although I have known some cats that will play for a while but then get bored. This is where dogs are better because dogs have more love for you in my opinion and are much more playful.

I think cats are much less scary for younger children than a dog. A cat won't jump up them and lick them and you have less fear that it will attack them. In saying this, I'd still not leave a child with a cat unattended because, like all animals, a cat can be nasty, especially if it's had a tug of the tail by a child, and it's best to be safe than sorry.

The biggest thing I don't like about cats is their lack of loyalty. They say that all cats have more than one home. I have has several cats that have run away and not came back which is annoying, especially after you have spent time and money on them.

Overall, I think cats are good pets that are cheaper than dogs. They're great if you haven't got a lot of time to commit to them because they are faily independent.

Summary: Nice animals for pets.
