Thinking about getting a cat? Here are ten things you should know about cats before you rush and and adopt one.

1. Not all cats are intelligent, my cat is so clueless that I have actually renamed him Stupid
2. Cats don't always land on their feet nine times out of ten my cat lands on his head
3. It's quite normally for housecats to eat all your favourite plants, apparently they need a slight amount of greenery in there diet. Outdoor cats tend to eat grass and so your plants are normally safe.
4. Hide Christmas tree from cat, failure to do so will result in baubles, tinsel and lights being strewn across the room and snoring cat lying in tree
5. Scratching posts are boring after 10 minutes whereas the sofa is always a fun way of sharpening claws.
6. Do not attempt to walk lazy housecat on lead, it will only resort in cat being dragged across pavement and therefore becoming very dirty and you will have to wash cat (see point 8)
7. Do not attempt to sleep with young cat at bottom of bed no matter how comfy and cute and sleepy cat appears to be. As soon as you are sleeping cat will wake up and want to play chase your feet, failure to play this game will result in cat standing on head and meowing loudly.
8. DO NOT WASH THE CAT without protective clothing, if possible take cat to pet grooming centre.
9. Cat fur is a great fashion accessory, which is a good thing really, since cat prefers to sleep on any item of clothing left out by you as opposed to designated cat bed.
10. Finally always remember that you never own a cat they own you.


Despite this list, I love my cat and I'm a very obedient owner, he wouldn't change me for the world.
