The Chihuahua is the worlds smallest breed of dog. They can range from 2 to 6 pounds. They are know for their apple shaped heads and bulging eyes. Chihuahua's originated in Mexico and were named from the Mexican city of Chihuahua. Chihuahua's can have long or short hair. They are not the best breed of dog to choose if you have children since Chihhuahuas like being the center of attention. Since they are so small, they move fast to stay out of the way of trampling feet. Chihuahua's are very affectionate dogs. They get cold very easily and can often be found under covers. Chihuahuas tend to bond with one person, even though they may tolerate other people. The most common injuries Chihuahua's receive are broken or fractured legs, because they jump a lot. If you choose a Chihuahua as a pet be careful to not to let them jump from high places often. Chihuahuas often have difficulties in child birth. If you choose to breed Chihuahuas make sure you have a vet on call so an emergency C-section can be preformed in needed.
Chihuahuas also make great door bells since they bark when someone knocks at the door or when they hear strange noises. They do this to protect their owners.
