German Shepherd dogs (also known as Alsations or GSD for short) are a large breed dog with the adult weight weighing in around 35-40kg. They should have a straight back and confident stance. Unfortunately due to breeding to KC standards some GSD's have a very sloped back and are shaking at their back legs as they find it difficult to balance ...  Read the complete review

A German shepherd is all you could want in a dog. They look really intimidating, which is good because you know that no one will cause trouble when it is with you. If you have owned one for as many years as I have, you will know that despite the intimidating looks, they are really a fun and loving dog. They are also one of the smartest and ...  Read the complete review

Ive only own one GSD so far in my life and I can say its been an honor I can't put into words what it is about the breed that I love so much there just seems to be a connection. GSD's are classed as a large breed. They originated in Germany (if the name didnt give that away) in the late 1800's making them failry 'new' as far as breeding goes. They belong to the working dog group as they were originally bred for herding sheep. They are often favoured as Police dogs due to their strength, agility and high level of ...  Read the complete review

I must admit that when my wife said she wanted to get an Alsatian / GSD I was a bit apprehensive .... I'd never had one before (being a Jack Russell man myself) and was a bit wary of them ... 5 years down the line I can honestly say that our GSD has won me over. We've had various breeds and aren't really biased to any one - in fact I ...  Read the complete review

Before Sadie there was a lot less incessant whining. Before Sadie I got stared at less frequently whilst I was busy and rarely got a large head thumped onto my lap or woken with an affectionate headbutt and a lick. Premium Review German Shepherd: Lovable and loving! (321 words)

Firstly, many people think German Shepherds are very aggressive and will bite. This will only be the case if they have been (or are being) mistreated or badly trained. In general they are loving, lovable, and extremely loyal dogs; perfect for the single type who lives on their own and sometimes needs a big ball of fluff to interact with! The only ...  Read the complete review

German Shepherds were bought into England just after the 1st World War and were originally bred to herd sheep. Very intelligent and often used as police dogs and guard dogs, these lovely dogs are one of the most loyal breeds that you can get. As a family we've had a number of different dogs over the years. However, my partner has always wanted a German Shepherd. Now, I've known a number of people over the years who have had the breed, and love them myself but due to limitations in house size, with two other dogs it simply wasn't going to be practical to have another dog! One of the most useful and most intelligent members of all the breeds of dogs to be found in a German Shephard once you have chosen this handsome animal. Express Review on German Shepherd
by - written on 11/02/08
Rating:

I have a 6-yr old white German Shepherd who is a fantastic pet. He's brilliant with children. Unfortunately he has started snapping at my children if they come near him when he's eating, and bit my one daughter 2 days ago (because she touched him while he was eating) I didn't see him do it, but I don't think he meant to actually bite her, however, this is of great concern to us, so we are looking for a new home for him with someone who has older children or none at all and who will look after him and give him a loving home. This is not a decision we have taken lightly as he is a beloved part of our family and will be sorely missed. Is there anyone who could give him a loving home?
