Goldfish

Description: Animal Species: Fish

Newest Review: ... keep asking for a pet, and after much compromise, generally the goldfish will get talked about. Goldfish are typically easy to look after, don't need too much attention or care as they amuse themselves. Parents see this as an easy pet for the a child to look after. Not just parents though. Any can look after a goldfish, which is probably why they are so popular. For a full time workaholic ... more

I've pretty much had a goldfish all my life. Right from when I was a young children, begging my mum for a puppy, I got a goldfish for Christmas. When that died a couple of years later, my mum replaced it as another way to deter my eagerness for a dog. Every goldfish has been replaced since my first one, and now that I've moved out and left home, I still have a goldfish. During my teens, I was getting bored of this goldfish and probably didn't give it as much love and care as it deserved, but somehow this has seemed to make it stronger, and the current goldifsh I own is 6 years old, much older than any of my previous fish lasted for. Goldfish don't ...  Read the complete review

Probably one of the most boring and cheap pets you can get but on the plus side if you look after them probably they seem to be imortal especially if you just have the one and put water plants in with the fish. When I was four years of age I desperately wanted a a pet of any description so that christmas myparents bought me a fish tank with five fish. two where fan tails like the ones in the picture, two were quite ordinary goldfish and one was quite small in comparison. In the first few weeks the fan tal fish died then about seven years on one of the big fish died then maybe ten years on the other large fish died. However sixteen years on from its ...  Read the complete review

People have a lot of miss conceptions about fish as pets, and fish in general. Maybe this is because they are not classed as an animal (the RSPCA does not have any responsibility over them), maybe it's because we can't touch them. Whatever the reason fish still do however, make very entertaining pets. The main problem people have is the set-up costs. With Cats, dogs, rabbits etc the set-up cost is lower but the on going cost is higher. So what will you need to start fish keeping (gold fish)? - Tank (2inches of fish per US gallon of water -most gold fish grow to about 5-7cm) - gravel -Plants (plastic or real. The real ones do get ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Lot More Work Than You'd Expect! (203 words)

The only real reason I have goldfish is that they belonged to someone else I knew and I offered to take them when they could no longer be looked after. I had always wanted pet fish, as I think they are very cute and pretty, as well as being relaxing to look at. These things may be so, but looking after goldfish is disproportionately demanding. Cleaning a goldfish tank is a pretty horrible job (they are far dirtier animals than most tropical fish) A decent tank can be quite expensive (please buy a big one - goldfish also need more space per fish than tropical)! But fish themselves are cheap, to coin a phrase, as chips. On the other hand, their ...  Read the complete review

I have 3 gold fish of the fantail variety. I chose to set up a fish tank after doing a bit of research. I like them based upon appearance. when I was deciding on a tank I was looking into information to find out what would be ideal for me. I looked at the biOrb range but decided the tank was too small and was an unpractical shape for fish to swim in although the tank was stylish. Im going to include some information about looking after goldfish, information which helped me to look after my goldfish which i hope will help others. Goldfish are reatively easy to look after. The areas you need to keep an eye on is keeping the tank clean, adding chemicals to ...  Read the complete review
