Gold fish are a realy popular pet and are the most popular fish to keep as pets bu tfor all the wrong reasons. People often opt for keeping a goldfish as a first fish as they dont want to buy a tank and only intend to buy a gold fish bowl, this is realy bad for the fish as gold fish bowls have a very small surface area of water because of the shape of the bowl this doesnt allow enough oxygen into the water and can kill your fish, another reason for not using a goldfish bowl is that it is hard to fit a filter into such a small tank and goldfish realy need filtration as they are very messy. Goldfish can live for over 20 years if looked after properly ... Read the complete review

Apparently goldfish are the most popular pet in the UK and I recently acquired a couple which I now keep in my bedroom. This is not the first time I have kept goldfish, like many children they were the first pets I ever had the responsibility of looking after and after visiting a friend recently and enjoying watching them I decided it was time I rekindled my child hood. Before I bought my fish I got a book which tells you how to look after your fish. It is not as easy as you may think and you actually have to make a lot of preparations before you can go and buy them. First of all you obviously need a bowl or tank to keep them in. I opted for a nice ... Read the complete review

Goldfish are a domesticated version of a wild Asian carp. These fish were often raised in ponds as a convenient food source, but sometime during the Chun Dynasty, 265-419, a yellow mutation was observed. This mutation became prized and fish of this colour were kept as pets rather than ending up on the plate with their less colourful siblings. By the Tang dynasty goldfish were regularly raised in ponds, and the goldfish as we know it was most likely developed by Buddhist monks. The fish would be raised in ponds but brought indoors into special containers to display when guests arrived. These fish became so prized that the emperor is meant to have issued a ... I have had a few goldfish over the years. I bought my first one when I was very young after my brother won himself one at a fair. We didn't have a proper tank to put them in so we found a glass bowl to use instead. It wasn't long before they both became ill and sadly died. The truth is, keeping healthy goldfish is not as simple as a lot of people think, and although they are relatively easy to look after, there IS some work involved. A few years ago I bought some orandas and this time I did things properly! ~ Tank ~ It is worth investing in a decent tank for your fish, you don't have to spend a fortune. A glass bowl simply ...
