Advantages: Soothing and you'll really grow attached

Disadvantages: Maybe not the prettiest fish out there !

When I was a kid we always seemed to have a goldfish high up on top of the fridge in a Goldfish bowl, I have no recollection of their names, or how long we had then as it seemed to be when I was younger and have less recollection.
Now i'm 30 years old, Married and live a very busy life with no kids and barely time to spend at home, one day me and my wife decided to get a fish, really on the spur of the moment we went out and got a common goldfish named George, we put him in a fairly large goldfish bowl but after a few days and some reading online I decided I wanted a better home for our fish and bought a proper aquarium for him.

One thing about having a fish are the soothing nature they provide, I can watch him for ages swimming around and exploring his habitat, I also truly believe he is aware of who we are and when we're around as goldfish are also known to be able to distinguish between people and also hide when someone unknown is around !!!

They say for a goldfish to grow to his potential ( It's been known for certain goldfish to grow to 23 inches in length and also one was recorded to live to 49 years ) is to give them adequate space, im told you need a 20 Gallon aquarium for a goldfish, ours seems happy in his 10 gallon aquarium.

The most appealing thing about keeping goldfish is anyone can do it, children can keep an aquarium in their room with goldfish and it can be used to teach kids responsibility regarding caring for another life, but anyone young or old with no experience can keep goldfish and thats truly their appeal as the most commonly kept fish.

If you're house is missing something and you want to add some life, a goldfish can certainly do the trick
