Gold fish are easy pets to keep, dont take up too much room in your house (depending on the size of your fish bowl), dont have to be walked or given exersized and are really easy to feed (just pop a few fish flakes into their tank).
Gold fish however dont show any affection to their owners and you dont get that affection that other pets like cats and dogs give you. Mostly because they apparently have the memory span of 5 seconds or so.
You can buy a gold fish for around £3 and you can buy their tanks and all you need to keep them (stones for the bottom etc.) for no more than £10 (depending on the size of tank that you are buying etc. then all you need is fish food, which one box costs around £2 and lasts for over a week.
I think that gold fish are a great pet for children to teach them a bit of responsibilty, they are easy to look after and to a child will teach them how to look after a pet.
I reccommend gold fish as a pet to people who dont really need any extra affection from their pets and want a pet that needs minimal attention, or for kids to look after, watching them in the tank can be very interesting if you are interested in fish and how they look and move.
