Advantages: Relatively cheap to keep and buy

Disadvantages: Not very exciting

I own 3 goldfish of my own, 2 black moors and 1 lionhead. These type can be described as "fancy goldfish".

I bought them about 6 months ago after my boyfriend gave me his old 20 litre aquarium tank. I purchased them all in a local petshop for around £2.49 each. They are simple to set up-
* Thoroughly clean tank
*rinse stones and layer along the bottom
*place any plants and ornaments on top of stones

To introduce your goldfish you have to leave the bag in the tank for about an hour to let the temperatures in the water to reach the same level.

** this should be done with the light off if your tank has one**

After this the goldfish are free to rome around their new environment!!

Personally I think it is so cruel keeping them in small bowls and tanks that are seen as the norm to keep golfish in.

I have 3 in a 20L tank and I think this is the perfect space for them to explore and swim around.

You have to feed your fish about once a day. You feed them as much as they can eat in 5mins, this is to avoid a build up of left over food.

They really aren't as simple to keep as you think, I had to buy a water conditioner to keep the amonia levels down in the tank and also clean them about once or twice a week (depending on the size of the tank).

Overall they are a great pet as they don't really need as much attention as a rabbit for example. However, problems can start happening and they may end up a little more expensive than you first thought.

Summary: Good for people that have little time to give a pet attention

I keep Clownfish but I do prefer my pets to be a bit more interactive!
